Hi guys. I have recently had 'Perfect Keylogger' popping up upon system startup saying buy it or continue to evaluate. I did not download and am not sure how the keylogger was obtained. My system also does not shut down, it says closing network settings, then stalls for hours and hours. Any help is appreciated, Thanks.
Hello lin0056 and Posted Image

My name is patndoris. I will be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. It will be very helpful if you follow these guidelines:
  • Malware logs are often lengthy and can take a lot of time to research and interpret. Please be patient while I review your logs.
  • Please note that there is no "Quick Fix" to modern malware infections and we may need to use several different approaches to get your system clean.
  • Please make sure to carefully read any instruction that I give you. If you're not sure, or if something unexpected happens, do NOT continue! Stop and ask!
  • Please follow my instructions carefully and in the order they are posted. You may also find it helpful to print out the instructions you receive.
  • Please do not run any scans or install/uninstall any applications or delete anything without being directed to do so.
  • Remember, absence of symptoms does not mean the infection is all gone. Please stick with me till you're given the "all clear".
  • Please do not use the Attachment feature for any log file. Do a Copy/Paste of the entire contents of the log file and submit it inside your post.
  • Please reply within 3 days. If I do not hear back from you in that time frame, I will post a reminder for you. Topics with no reply in 4 days are closed!
Please be advised I am still in training, and all of my replies to you will be checked for accuracy by one of our experts to ensure that I am giving you the best possible advice.
This may cause a delay in response time, but I will do my best to keep it as short as possible.

I will post back shortly with instructions.
That will be fine, I've been a member of these forums for about 3 years now, and I always trust you guys to fix my malware issues. Things you might need to know; - My laptop is a school based one connected to the school's network. - Acer TravelMate 6293

P2P - I see you have P2P software ( µTorrent & Limewire ) installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections. It likely contributed to your current situation. This page will give you further information.
Please note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.
Please see this topic for more information:
Perils of P2P File Sharing.
I would strongly recommend that you uninstall these now. You can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.

Your logfile is showing evidence of Perfect Keylogger. Perfect Keylogger is a complex commercial keylogger. It records all user keystrokes including passwords, takesscreenshots, tracks user activity in the Internet, captures chat conversations and e-mail messages. Perfect Keylogger can be remotely controlled. It can send gathered data to a configurable e-mail address or upload it on a predefined FTP server. The keylogger must be manually installed. It runs on every Windows startup.

I can also see evidence of a potential infection on a removable device. This could be a flash drive, external hard drive, or any other external device you plug into your computer. The infection is called Cracker Jack and it is a password stealing trojan. This is a potential security risk for your machine and any machine the external media are used on.

I would advise for you to disconnect this PC from the Internet, and then go to a known clean computer and change any passwords or security information held on the infected computer. In particular, check whatever relates to online banking financial transactions, shopping, credit cards, or sensitive personal information. It is also wise to contact your financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the infections have been identified and can be killed, because of their back door functionality, Your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. If it were on my PC I would not hesitate for a moment to do so. Making this decision is based on what the computer is used for, and what information can be accessed from it.

Please read the following for more information:
How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

Considering the above information, please let me know if your choice is to reformat, or if you would like to procede wtih cleaning.
If I back my files up on a external hard drive, will that become infected? If so, I'd like to proceed with cleaning because I have lot of files I'd like to keep - music, work, photos and the like.
If your external drive is one that you have been using with this computer, it is quite possibly already infected.

If it were my machine, I would follow these steps:
  • Reformat the external hard drive first. (All data on that drive would be erased).
  • Move data you wish to keep from your computer to the newly formatted external hard drive.
  • Do a full reformat of the computer (any remaining data will be erased.)
  • Reinstall your operating system, all the Windows updates (both critical and non-critical), your antivirus, firewall and any programs and program updates. I would install all of these from the original installation disks or from a fresh direct download. I would not use any stored copies of executable files, nor would I use any P2P program to obtain the install files.
  • Scan each file from the external hard drive for malware prior to putting it back onto the newly formatted machine.
  • Any files that you may find to be infected (especially music files) should NOT be put back onto the newly formatted machine and should be deleted.

If you wish to move forward with cleaning, it is not necessary to backup your files to the external drive at this point. However, I would caution you to refrain from using any removable media (USB/flash drives, external hard drive, iPod, cell phone, etc.) on the computer as you would risk reinfecting it and/or compromising your system further. If you choose to move forward with cleaning, we will address your removable media after we have finished removing infections from the computer. I would also ask that you disable any P2P programs, and refrain from any P2P downloads while we work on the machine so we don't have to worry about new infections while we work on the ones that are already identified.

Please let me know which choice you make, reformat or move forward with cleaning.
