Keylogger, etc.?

Hi All,

My wife has asked for a divorce, and since she's installed key loggers and other spy type software on others' computers before, I'm feeling pretty uncomfortable about what she may have done to mine. I use MS Security Essentials and I've run scans with MalWareBytes and Spybot Search and Destroy and they haven't found anything bad.

I downloaded and ran Hijack This and here are the results of the scan. If someone would take a look and tell me if you see anything, or offer any other tech advice, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Bret

Hello and Posted Image

My name is patndoris. I will be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. It will be very helpful if you follow these guidelines:
  • Malware logs are often lengthy and can take a lot of time to research and interpret. Please be patient while I review your logs.
  • Please note that there is no "Quick Fix" to modern malware infections and we may need to use several different approaches to get your system clean.
  • Please make sure to carefully read any instruction that I give you. If you're not sure, or if something unexpected happens, do NOT continue! Stop and ask!
  • Please follow my instructions carefully and in the order they are posted. You may also find it helpful to print out the instructions you receive.
  • Please do not run any scans or install/uninstall any applications or delete anything without being directed to do so.
  • Remember, absence of symptoms does not mean the infection is all gone. Please stick with me till you're given the "all clear".
  • Please do not use the Attachment feature for any log file. Do a Copy/Paste of the entire contents of the log file and submit it inside your post.
  • Please reply within 3 days. If I do not hear back from you in that time frame, I will post a reminder for you. Topics with no reply in 4 days are closed!

I would like to say up front that I will do my best to ensure that your machine is free from any keyloggers and malware, but I cannot make any guarantees for you. Since this sounds like it is more of a personal issue than an unintentional type infection, I want to be clear that I cannot get in the middle of anything that might be related to that.

Right off the bat, I want to be sure you are aware Team Viewer is on the machine. If installed to run at startup, and if another person has the password, they can gain access to your machine. This is not malware, nor a keylogger, but does have the potential for misuse depending on how the program is installed. It is simply something you should be aware of if you are not so already.

I'm not seeing anything in the HijackThis log but that said, HijackThis has largely been replaced by other tools. Since being acquired by TrendMicro, HijackThis has not been regularly updated. Many infections are now able to hide partly, or completely from a HijackThis scan. DDS includes all the scan locations of HijackThis and more.

Download and Run DDS by sUBs

Please download DDS and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————

Please Please copy / paste the scan reults.

DDS.txt and Attach.txt

Please read carefully and follow these steps. There is a difference between what you see in one of the images below and what I need you to do.
We are only creating a log - I do NOT want you to "cure" or try to fix anything in this step. It is very important that you don't choose Cure when presented with that option.

  • Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
  • Extract its contents to your desktop.
  • Once extracted, open the TDSSKiller folder and doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image)

  • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure but I want you to choose SKIP instead , click on Continue.

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image)

  • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image)

  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image)

  • If no reboot is require, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory, (usually C:\ folder) in the form of "TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt". Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
patndoris,

Thanks very much for your reply. I put TeamViewer on the PC to access my home PC from work. I'm not concerned about that.

I appreciate the help, and I certainly don't intend for you to get in the middle of anything. I just want to know if my PC has malware or spy software on it.

That said, TDSSKiller didn't find anything suspicious.

==== End Of File ===========================
I would just like to make sure that VisionNet or VNet is a ISP provider you recognize and use. If it is not, you need to let me know.

IOBit based in China has stolen and incorporated proprietary databases and intellectual property into their software in the past. This calls into question the reliability and safety of this program. I would suggest you use uninstall this program, but the decision is yours. You can read more about it here

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 7 update 3 and Save it to your Desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says Java SE 7
  • Click the Download JRE button to the right.
  • Read the License Agreement then select Accept License Agreement
  • Click on the link to download Windows x86 Offline and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add or Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE or Java™ 6) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-7u3-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
  • After the install is complete, go into the Control Panel (using Classic View) and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup)
    • On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.
    • Next, click on the Delete Files button
    • There are three options in the window to clear the cache - check them ALL
      Applications and Applets
      Trace and Log Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE. If you have any objection to doing this please omit this step
  • Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

Otherwise, your system looks fine. I don't see any evidence of malware or keyloggers at this time. Obviously, you want to be cautious with any links you click or attachments you open, but otherwise you look good
