Hellow Whatthetech!
May I ask of help please. I have a friend whom has just received a netbook gift from her uncle, but her problem is how to use it because of its Windows XP written in Italian language. We cannot understand almost all of the wordings and display and it halt us to use the machine. May i ask please how to change the language of its system to English so that i can help her in her problem?
Thanking you in advance for your help. Thank you so much.
Hi, The easiest way to do this is by way of a format and reinstall of the Windows XP operating system (English version), you will need to buy the installation disc and licence key for the English version.
Note This procedure will wipe out anything that is on the disc so if you or your friend's uncle have anything important on the computer make sure you back it up first.
If your Italian language skills are not too good and could prevent you making the backup, perhaps you ask your friend's uncle to act as a translator?

The way to do it is very easy, BUT, because you don't understand the language it will seem very daunting, and you may take a few goes to find the bit you need, but think of xp in English (or whatever your used to) and you should get there with the following.
Click on Start - Control Panel, the start button is the obvious windows button, the control panel button is probably the top one in the middle section, possibly under the my computer, the icon for this is like a pad and pencil with a tick on it, once in the control panel scroll to near the bottom and look for Regional and Language Options, the icon is a world globe, like found in say a geography class, the 1st tab is location, use the 2 drop down box to select your location.
Now click the middle tab at the top, this is Languages, now click the Details button, it's the only one there, in the new window the language in use will be in the box (middle), click on Add which is the top button of the 3, you will probably find the lower 2 buttons are not click-able at this time, but regardless it's the top button of the middle 3, and again use the drop down box to select the language you want, apply\exit your way out of all the menus, and you will probably need to reboot to finish the change, when it comes back hopefully it will all be set correctly, hope this helps.

Curse my slow typing lol, the above is certainly a sure fire way to do this as well.
Thank you guys. I think we just format the netbook as paws suggested. I already tried to change the language thru the regional and language options but it was really hard because of its foreign language added with error messages occurring. And probably, as i observe it, there is also a virus in it because of its unstable mode.
Thank you so much again guys. It's really gratifying here.
God bless.
Good luck and I hope the format and reinstall with the English version does the trick.
When you have finished the install and all your applications are set up together with your internet/emails etc then consider making a disc image with either free imaging software or paid for versions like Paragon or Acronis etc then in the event of serious trouble, that cannot be resolved in a timely or cost effective way by the usual means, you will be able to re-image back to your "perfect set up" in less time than it takes to walk the dog….
Free imaging software available from here; http://www.thefreecountry.com/utilities/backupandimage.shtml
