You are trying to launch ESET Online Scanner in a different browser than Internet Explorer. Please agree to the download of ESET Smart Installer - an application which installs and launches ESET Online Scanner in a separate window. At the end of the scan, there will be an option to uninstall ESET Online Scanner and all its components.

CatByte- I downloaded and installed Mozilla since it's faster. Same problem occured again!!!!!!! Can we do msconfig and simplify startup in case something really nasty is going on?

I don't believe anything really nasty is going on, there's probably a setting somewhere that needs adjusting, but that's really not my area of expertise. (tech team would know better - you can head there once we are finished clean up)

Run this tool

It essentially has the same definitions as the Kaspersky online scanner


Please click here to download AVP Tool by Kaspersky.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Reboot your computer into SafeMode.

    You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.
    Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter    .

  • Double click the setup file to run it.
  • Click Next to continue.
  • It will by default install it to your desktop folder. Click Next.
  • Hit OK at the prompt for scanning in Safe Mode.
  • It will then open a box. There will be a tab that says Automatic scan.
  • Under Automatic scan make sure these are checked.

  • System Memory
  • Startup Objects
  • Disk Boot Sectors.
  • My Computer.
  • Also any other drives (Removable that you may have)


  • Then click on Scan at the top right hand Corner.
  • It will automatically Neutralize any objects found.
  • If some objects are left unneutralized then click the button that says Neutralize all
  • If it says it cannot be Neutralized then choose the delete option when prompted.
  • After that is done click on the reports button at the bottom and save it to file, name it Kas.
  • Save it to your desktop and just post only the detected Virus\malware in the report it will be at the very top under Detected post those results in your next reply.

    Note: This tool will self uninstall when you close it so please save the log before closing it.

Hi, AOL toolbars, which are packaged with the AOL program. Please post a fresh DDS Log ant Attach.txt and advise how the computer is running now and if there are any outstanding issues

CatByte, i am attaching the DDS reports as requested. The computer does seem to be running a bit faster, especially since I uninstalled an outdated version of AOL. The inistallation of XP service pack 3 seemed to stall at about 26%- with no perceivable hard drive activity occuring so I canceled the install. Thank you for being so available for assistance yesterday. -Jcatsmom

Hi,

Log looks clean, just some housekeeping to do now.

Please do the following:

Try downloading SP3 from the following link and install it manually. Try it in safe mode if it wont install in normal mose. Make sure all security programs are disabled and all other windows closed.
