I noticed a few days ago all of a sudden my PS would lag a little when performing operations like for example creating new document or cutting and pasting… There's always a delay / lag / hour glass when it should happen instantly. This is happening with PS 7.0 which is old as stuff so obviously it doesnt require any kind of special PC to run it… also same on CS3 or CS4.. I have 4 gigs of Ram.. 300MB 3D card.. Dual Core 3.0 gighz processor.. What could cause this? I've already done things like clean up my PC with Uniblue, both registry clean and general file cleanup.. and also run Nortan security suite scan and no viruses… The only time it runs properly is right after rebooting the computer. After it's opened for a little it starts doing it. My profession is graphic design / web design so this is messing with my productivity level.
From your description, your machine should be strong enough to handle the application. In fact, I surmise that the machine has actually handled your work previously and this is a newly observed problem on a previously well running machine. Is that correct? So the obvious, is to inquire about recent changes: –New Software installed –New Hardware installed –Changes in your ordinary routine of conducting work with multiple windows –Background scanning –Heat
The only thing new that I can think of that was installed is Norton Security Suite… But i've tried to disable it and it still seems to do it.
What security utility were you using before Norton?
Have you completely uninstalled your prior security before installing Norton?

While Norton has been a competent security resource for many years, quite a few users have found that Norton can hog system resources to the extent that their other computing activities are seriously slowed.

Let's have a look at the other configuration features of your machine.

Please Run the PCPitstop.com OverDrive Full Tests

Here's how:

You must use your Internet Explorer for this procedure. (doesn't work so well in Firefox or others)

Go to: http://www.pcpitstop.com
Click on "Free Computer Check-up" listed below PC Pitstop OverDrive
In the User Login - Click on "Sign up FREE!"
You'll need to submit a valid email address and create your own password, then click - Create Account(button)

Now enter your email address and password to Log in, Select - Scan this system Now!(button)
You will then be asked to download an ActiveX component and allow it to install.
It is safe and does not compromise your privacy.
Follow the on-screen prompts to install the ActiveX and to allow the Full Tests to be run on your machine.

The Full Tests take about 2 1/2 - 3 minutes on most machines.
When complete, a Results - Summary - Recommended Fixes will be displayed.

Please post the URL internet address from your Results, back here into this Topic Thread so that we can review the configuration and present performance levels of your machine.

Note: During the graphics 2D and graphics 3D testing, your screen will display some rapidly moving objects.
If you are sensitive to visual flashing, it may cause dizziness. Therefore, look away from the screen during that portion of the testing.

After reviewing the results we will be more informed and may be able to provide better recommendations for you to work towards improving your machine's performance.

Best Regards
I know what's causing it. It's Internet Explorer. Whenever it is opened at the same time PS is it lags out Photoshop for some strange reason. Firefox doesn't do it.
If you "know" what is causing the lag, then you diagnosis is complete. I could then presume you do not need further assistance. However, if you are unable to resolve the problem, and wish to have further assistance, then please run and post the PCPitstop OverDrive Full Tests as requested above.
