Hey all, About a month or so ago, i formatted my HDD to get rid of vista from my laptop and installed XP from a memory stick. no problems until i go to try to install something from a CD/DVD and it doesn't work. All i get is the spinny noise, as if the drive is reading the CD, my windows freezes and onyl comes back when i open the CD Drive again. I've went into the device manager, uninstalled the DVD Drive and reinstalled it, to no luck. Any suggestions ?
My one burning question is why would you install XP from a memory stick? Is it because a CD would not work? Anyways, to answer your question, your DVD drive is bad. It needs to be cleaned or replaced. The freeze up is from the machine waiting for the drive to respond while it sits there grinding away at your disc. :)
