My husband has just bought a new hard drive for his laptop and has succesfully installed windows xp.
He is trying to install Norton anti virus on his laptop, but keeps coming up with an error similar to this.
"The add-in 'C:\Program Files\NavNT\vpmsece.dll' could not be installed or loaded
He has tried to search for the file to delete it, but each time a blue screen comes up and automatically shuts down.
Could you tell us what to do in very simple terms please.
TBH there are free options far better than Norton, I would suggest binning Norton and getting Avast, it is far superior, and is free, you have 60 days to register for a free licence, and you have to do this once a year, you will not receive any mail other than your licence, so is quite safe, this is the better way to go IMHO, should you still wish to install Norton let us know and we can try to help, but it is not a very good solution compared to other choices.
Hi Binnie,
The Error message that you quote is encountered frequently enough that Symantec has posted a fix.
But the fix offered by Symantec applies to situations where the owner/user has MS Office Outlook installed.
And the error occurs when the owner/user tries to run the email program Outlook.
You state that the error appears when attempting to install Norton Anti-virus.
Am I understanding your situation correctly?
And let's have a look at that Blue Screen Error message that you've been encountering:
Here's how to turn off auto-restart: (you can turn it back on after you are finished with this repair by reversing the same steps)
1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System
2. Go to Advanced
3. Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings
4. Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"
Reboot and “write down with paper and pencil the exact “full” error message you may be receiving if you experience a Blue Screen Error or Stop Message
Post the Error Message information into your next reply so that we can identify what next steps may be necessary
