Updates Disabled

I just received help with a severe malware issue and received a clean bill of health. Here's the thread:

Firstly there is a problem in both IE and FireFox that background images and colors do not show.

Secondly, I can not connect to windows update via IE. I get an error message - [Error number: 0x800704DD]

From Microsoft, that error says confirm contents of this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\SensLogn

In regedit - there is only one line in that folder

(Default) REG_SZ (vale not set)

That's where I'm at and I'm not sure how to put the MS recommended values in the registry.

Sorry it has taken so long to get to your post. There are only so many of us here and it's been busy, my appologies.

If you still need help with this, to correct the registry entry, copy the following red information and paste into a notepad window. Then click on File and Save as "SensLogn.reg", including the double quotes, to your Desktop.

Right click on SensLogn.reg on your Desktop and select Merge . Click yes when asked if you're sure you want to do this.

To check it, you can use regedit or open a command prompt and enter

reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\SensLogn"

and you should see the same data shown below in red. You can copy the above registry key to the clipboard then in the command prompt window, right click and select Paste.
