Hey, and thanks to anyone reading this who may be able to help! Basically a few months ago I bought a new computer. I forgot (very stupidly) to install an anti-virus - at that time the computer was running on a restricted trial which ran out after a few weeks. Suddenly my passwords were changed for a few online accounts and the 'secondary e-mail' (to which forgotten passwords were sent) was changed to one that was not mine. I managed to change it back using a security question and answer. However it was soon changed again and was verified that someone was talking to colleagues of mine using sites like Facebook. I also noticed a file called bootsect.bak in the C drive (though this seems normal from a search on it). On the infected computer I have turned off the internet. *EDIT* I also just thought of whether it might be possible to re-format the whole pc? It is a Vista 'Zoostorm' which can with vista pre-installed, and if there was a way of re-setting it to factory defaults I could do this because all the data is backed up (though only as a last resort I hope!) This may not be the right site or forum to discuss on, (and sorry if it is!) but I was hoping someone could shed some light! Cheers, T-man7
Given your situation I would recommend a reformat and reinstall as the wisest option. If you care to start a fresh thread in this part of the forum, somebody with the more specific skills/knowledge you need should be able to help walk you through the whole process - they like this sort of thing in there.
