Hi All My pc has been running poorly for a while it is generally slow, sometimes grinds to a halt and takes around 8 mins to shutdown Running IE8 pages fail to load (I am guessing due to time out) when either avg or adaware are running the pc grinds to a halt Pc is Dell (never again) dimension 5150 with 3.4 Pentium D (I fitted this cpu 6 months ago and has run well), 4gb ram, 250g hd C drive is 46% full I am running XP sp3, IEx 8 I ran Windows File Protection I did not get any indication of errors found I have run ccleaner and defrag all to no avail I have avg anti virus, spybot, and adaware, all show no issues found. Have scanned online with kaspersky again no problems All help greatly appreciated Thanks in advance Regards Paul

as for ie8, i'd suggest uninstalling it cuz it's causing problems to most of the users…
Hi Thanks I have been through the malware route I am as sure as I can be that I do not have a problem with malware. Will do as you suggest with ie8 as i am not at all impressed with it I should have said that when this problem started I ran update and installed ie8, so the problem existed prior to ie8
Dude with all due respect but did you clicked on the link? If it has malwareremoval in it's name it doesn't mean it's malware removal… Go check it out and read the whole thing
HI Thanks for the advice Yes thanks I did go through the page, I had already done most on the list ,I had not carried out the restore clean up and this has speeded up some aspects, however the pc is still very poor I have also removed ie8 and on rebooting and subsequent updating via windows update, there is a definite slight improvement, especially when browsing. Still not right though I got a low memory warning last night even with 4gb and 3 applications running. I ran memcheck and all looks to be ok with the memory
Right click on My Computer -> properties -> advanced -> under Performance choose Settings -> Advanced -> Virtual Memory

What does it say for Total paging file size for all drives?
It normally should be like 1.5x from your ram
so around 6gb

Also, when was the last time you reinstalled your windows?
Hi and thanks again Total paging file size 5373 I have never reinstalled windows (currently running xp home) pc is a Dell came it with no discs I do have xp pro (and a licence) so I could always upgrade to that.
