hi team, i have been having the vpu recover problem for at least 2 months now and it's getting each day worse. while performing 'normal' tasks such as typing, my computer freezes and the screen goes blank although the computer itself continues running (can hear the fan). i have to reboot the system and often use all work. initially i thought the problem were the malware, however shelf life on this forum helped me successfully to get rid of them, so they aren't the problem, my system is clean now. read different things on different forums but i turn now for help on this forum, got excellent help previously and i'm no computer expert, not in the least. so please be patient and clear. some say it may be related to overheating, my sensor shows 44C for motherboard, and CPU oscillates between 39-44C. don't know if these are important data or say it all. please find my pc specs below. thanks in advance. laika Computer: Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional OS Service Pack Service Pack 2 DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c) Computer Name LAIKA User Name (Removed for privacy) Motherboard: CPU Type AMD Sempron, 2000 MHz (10 x 200) 3300+ Motherboard Name Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M (3 PCI, 1 AGP, 2 DDR DIMM, Audio, Video, LAN) Motherboard Chipset VIA VT8380 K8M800, AMD Hammer System Memory 1024 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM) BIOS Type Award Modular (08/30/05) Communication Port Puerto de comunicaciones (COM1) Communication Port Puerto de comunicaciones (COM2) Communication Port Puerto de impresora (LPT1) Display: Video Adapter RADEON 9250 - Secondary (128 MB) Video Adapter RADEON 9250 (128 MB) 3D Accelerator ATI Radeon 9250 (RV280) Monitor Monitor Plug and Play [NoDB] (ETL2202195) Multimedia: Audio Adapter VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller Storage: IDE Controller Controladora estándar PCI IDE de doble canal IDE Controller Controladora IDE principal de bus VIA Floppy Drive Unidad de disquete Disk Drive ST3160023AS (160 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA) Disk Drive Generic USB SD Reader USB Device Disk Drive Generic USB MS Reader USB Device Disk Drive Generic USB SM Reader USB Device Disk Drive Generic USB CF Reader USB Device Optical Drive HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4164B SMART Hard Disks Status OK Partitions: C: (NTFS) 152617 MB (126127 MB free) Input: Keyboard Teclado estándar de 101/102 teclas o Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard Mouse Mouse compatible PS/2 Network: Network Adapter ZyAIR B-220 IEEE 802.11b USB Adapter (192.168.0.192) Modem Agere Systems PCI Soft Modem Peripherals: Printer EPSON Stylus DX4400 Series USB1 Controller VIA VT83C572 PCI-USB Controller USB1 Controller VIA VT83C572 PCI-USB Controller USB1 Controller VIA VT83C572 PCI-USB Controller USB1 Controller VIA VT83C572 PCI-USB Controller USB2 Controller VIA USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller USB Device Dispositivo de almacenamiento masivo USB USB Device ZyAIR B-220 IEEE 802.11b USB Adapter

I'm not very experienced with this issue.
However, after reading a bit around the internet, there appear to be a few folks having similar problems.

There may be a conflict between Via Chipset and ATI Radeon Radeon.
You may improve performance by testing and selecting an older driver.
On a contrary note, ATI drivers may create false positive for overheating when it is not.
You may benefit from using the most recent driver.

You should check in your BIOS to assure that Video Adapter is toggled for AGP and not PCI or PCIe

This problem type has been around for a few years, so we'll probably find a solution.
On the otherhand, it being around for a long time, suggests there are some conflict issues between Via and Ati

Let us know if you make any progress.
hi doug, thanks for reply. for the time being, and after messing around considerably i've managed to download the most recent drive for my ati card. the problem persists. don't know where to find the older versions to check the contrary. i'm sorry to say i don't know what the bios are, nor where to find them, neither what AGP or PCI is or how to set this. i'm a novice as i said and of course i can improve but i need some detailed help. best, laika
