Suspected malware

Hello. I suspect that I have malware on my computer that Windows Live Onecare either can't detect or remove. The computer slows down on occasions, I lose my cursor for a few seconds, and things like Skype and web browsers are sometimes unstable. Registry Mechanic scan indicates that system health is low. On repeated scans it indicates missing links with regard to Windows OneCare and McAfee, but is unale to correct the problems, indicating that they have been ignored. I'd appreciate some advice and help. Thanks Schalk
