...completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don't have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates. It should just work.

This I really want to see. :o

Quoted from the same announcement:

We have a lot of work to do, and we're definitely going to need a lot of help from the open source community to accomplish this vision. We're excited for what's to come and we hope you are too. Stay tuned for more updates in the fall and have a great summer

.

That would be a lot of work to do and a lot of help from open source community.

Windows is Microsoft´s heart, its soul. Creating a new OS is like aiming and shooting it, and that´s what google has done. I´m sure this wound hurts more than any other software made to compete. Things are getting more and more complicated for Microsoft.

This situation sounds to revenge to me. First, MS aimed to google´s heart when it created Bing. Now, the other way around. The giants are fighting, and we are better of with it :D

That sounds like a 100% secure system to me. Does this really exist? I dont think so...

Well, first of all, there is talk about a new system. And then again. It is going to based on a Linux core, so if one could / should
call it a new OS I'll leave to the reader. But for me, it is "just" another Distro of Linux. However, main thing here is, it is going to
be a Linux Distro with a major cooperation in the back for support. Not something Linux Distro's usually have.

But one thing readers have to pay close attention to, is this;

They want their data to be accessible to them wherever they are and not have to worry about losing their computer or forgetting to back up files

Those two lines, sounds like they are going to operate with the storage of the system in the cloud. Not a bad thing as such, but if that really is the case, how much space are Google willing to give, before you have to pay for additional space? Maybe they are going to operate most of the system in the cloud, and what you have physically in your home, is nothing but a Internet portal to Google OS.

Many interesting things to think about. But one thing I am almost certain of, is that it won't conquer the market. It doesn't sound like a OS for developers, programmers, industry etc. So I think that Apple and Microsoft will still have their share of the market.

But the sounding of trumpets for the next great war on the IT market is not a bad thing. The competition will force the players to step up to the plate and deliver better products, simply because more alternatives, means yours is going to be that more attractive to the clientel you want to use your OS.

So all in all, exiting new times ( might ) await ahead.

Have been out digging alittle, hehe. ;) And seems the developement department in Denmark (Aarhus, Katrinebjerg) is looking for a programmer. I would almost say, that I am certain that it have to do with the new OS. And given the qualification requirements, it does sound like the Google OS is going to be clouded and with Virtual machine capabilities.

http://www.google.co...ftware engineer

Summary of the qualifications needed;

Responsibilities:

* Design, develop, implement and test high performance virtual machines.
* Analyze and improve the quality of dynamically generated code.
* Develop new and modify existing garbage collection algorithms to minimize memory requirements and maximize performance.

* University Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a closely related field (Ph.D. a plus).
* Strong low-level programming skills and a thorough understanding of hardware architectures.
* Knowledge of garbage collection, interpretation, and compilation.
* Experience with C, C++, and assembly.
* Development experience in a Unix/Linux environment.
* Enthusiasm for solving interesting problems.
* Fluency in English.

:)
