Tired of reading googles on the subject. Tried the suggested deletion and uninstall, i.e. sc delete mysql and removed using "Add and Remove Programs" then reinstalled version 4.1. but can't get around 1067 error message "Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly" when trying to start the MySQL service. This was subsequent to "Error: Cannot create Windows service for MySQL. Error: 0" during the configuration. Anybody with suggestions? Tks.
The first thing I would suggest is that you uninstall MySQL, and then rename the installation folder where it resided that contains any databases and configuration information. Then try reinstalling it. This should start you over fresh and allow you to determine if it is a bad database or something.
:yeah: ok, f.y.i……………….. and the solution was ……… (Ta!Da!) there was a version control problem between PHP and mysql. i went up to mySQL version 5.1 and used mysqli.dll extension instead of mysql.dll. i'm sorry but i didn't note the url i got that info from, it was about 5 or 6 levels deep on a forum chain that i followed. anyway thanks for you interest guys. i have to say that the mySQL/PHP/phpMyadmin version control appears to be a little out-of-control. there are many releases and patches to deal with these days.
