Hello, First let me thank you for any advice and assistance that you may offer. As the title says, I have a virus that causes my wallpaper to desplay a warning about my computer being infected. Every few minutes a warning pops up saying that my computer is infected as asks for me to pay for virus removal. The program that appears to be causing all this is called system security 2009. The worst part, (I was browsing other topics) is that I cannot open HJT, it downloads to my computer and then will not open up. Also all my virus programs will not open! Please help, this is very annoying, (like 6 pop ups just while I was writting this). Once again thank you for your time and effort in this matter!
Hi,

Please do the following:

STEP #1

Please download DDS and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.pif to run the tool.
  • When done, two DDS.txt's will open.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————
Please include the contents of the following in your next reply:

DDS.txt
Attach.txt.

STEP #2

Download the GMER Rootkit Scanner. Unzip it to your Desktop.
Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.
Double-click gmer.exe. The program will begin to run.
**Caution**
These types of scans can produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any
"<— ROOKIT" entries unless advised!
If possible rootkit activity is found, you will be asked if you would like to perform a full scan.
  • Click NO
  • In the right panel, you will see a bunch of boxes that have been checked … leave everything checked and ensure the Show all box is un-checked.
  • Now click the Scan button.
Once the scan is complete, you may receive another notice about rootkit activity.
  • Click OK.
  • GMER will produce a log. Click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "GMER.txt"
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop.

Post the contents of GMER.txt in your next reply.
Hello and thanks for the help. I downloaded the programs but when I get to the RUN progam screen and click run it is blocked by system security version 4.5.1 aka the virus. A little window pops up saying that it cannont open the program because it is infected. Is there another way I could open these programs?
Hi,

Please try to run them in safe mode:

To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY repeatedly,
  • this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
  • go into your usual account

Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html

If they will still not run then do the following:

(if they do run in safe mode - skip this next step for now and post the logs)

Please run this following program in safe mode also.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
**Note:  In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop**
  • If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
    • Tools->Options->Main tab
    • Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".
  • During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

    [external image: Posted Image]

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
  • Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    ———————————————————–

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      ———————————————————–

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    ———————————————————–

  • Double click on combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\Combo-Fix.txt" for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combo-fix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**
Ok with safe mode I was able to run HJT as well as DDS. I have all three logs, however, I could not seem to get the GMER scan to work. It appears it may be a program error.

If these 3 logs are not enough to see the problem I will try to reinstall GMER and get it to work.

============= FINISH: 13:49:55.98 ===============

Once again thank you for your time!
Hi,

If this program will not run in normal mode, try it in safe mode.

Now run the ComboFix program.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
**Note:  In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop**
  • If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
    • Tools->Options->Main tab
