Thanks so much for your help, Tomk! I'll take your advice and head over to the other forum if things keep behaving badly. I do have one last question for you, though, but it's not Malware related… I hate having a cluttered desktop, and I've had to download a lot of things for this. How many of them may I uninstall and/or move to a different folder? I already have a folder on my desktop for stuff I call "useless junk!" (It's my alternative to "unused desktop items") and I've moved all the zipped folders into it. May I go ahead and delete these, since I've extracted the programs from them? I will, of course, keep HJT and Malwarebytes, but what about AFT Cleaner, JavaRa, Dial-a-Fix, and the system restore program, along with all the "installer" and "setup" things for these programs? PS-that is exactly where I got my name from. ;) Good to know you're listening to the right kind of stuff when trying to fix my computer issues! I think it helps the mojo.
crazydiamond, Hjt is your choice. If you ever need it again, you can re-download it, even if you have to transfer it from a different computer. Keep ATF and run it before running Mbam. It just gets rid of the temp clutter and helps the scan run faster. Dial-a-Fix and Javara can go. Java uninstalls itself now that you've gotten rid of the old versions. SystemRestore is your choice. It's an easy way to make a restore point but you probably won't be creating a restore point manually very often. Any misc. .zip and .txt files left can be junked. Anything else?
