Fixed.

I can see the properties and change the images but still can't change the desktop …. still holding onto that html tag.

I don't understand what you mean, could you explain it better?

The only thing in your log would be this one. It's not a baddie, but is know to cause problems.

You can have HJT fix it, reboot and see if there's a difference.
You can always have HJT restore it as long as you run HJT out of a folder (which you are).

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [NVIEW] rundll32.exe nview.dll,nViewLoadHook

Try cleaning out the temp stuff on the machine also.

Clean up the system also (this is for 98 and ME but should be close for XP)

Open up IE, from the drop down menu choose Tools, Internet Options, Delete Temporary Internet Files and cookies. (cookies optional)
Go to Start, Run, type temp , delete all the files in that folder
Do the same for recent
Delete all the .tmp and .chk files you can find. To do so, click Start/Find and in the search box (field) type *.tmp and this will search for all your temporary files. Repeat for chk files by typing *.chk in the search field, make sure you are looking in 'C'. Empty recycle bin.

Let me know, MrC
Deleted ….. here's the log ….. and even deleted it in safe mode.

It still comes back…

Not sure what this is about either (nwiz??)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /installquiet /keeploaded /nodetect

I'll try to explain (gonna try to post up a image so you can see ….. need to do this on another machine) …. the desktop is a solid white background. Mousing over certian areas causes the background to change to a light tan. On a right click …. I get a properties box which tells me it's an HTML document. (That is non exhistant). To (attempt) to change the desktop properties …. I have to use control panels>display> so and so on. I can change the desktop image (It shows the change in the display properties box), but does not show when applied and saved. Just the same old white background that flips to tan once in a while.

Once again thanks for the assist and your patience. I'm starting to get bald spots now from pulling my hair out with this machine.

Here's an image. The html properties is the desktop right click. The rest is through the control panel.

Pretty weird huh???

[external image: Posted Image]
I did a google search an came up with 3 hits, 2 in a laguage I don't understand.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-…G=Google+Search

Have you tried to find the file? C:\WINDOWS\Web\desktop.html

Try using the KIllBox to delete it, just copy and past this ( C:\WINDOWS\Web\desktop.html) into it and make sure you have the "Create a backup before killing this file" checked, then hit Find and Kill this file. It may want to do it on reboot, that's OK.

http://download.broadbandmedic.com <—KillBox

This is for your video card, it's OK
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /installquiet /keeploaded /nodetect

I'm gone for tonight, let me know on this one. MrC
Alright!!!! Here's the final HJT log. (I hope to GOD it's clean, this problem was annoying)

I booted to safe mode and I ran the KillBox … and it returned a no file found. I ran a search and found the file in (of all places) the I.E. history folder. So I cleared the history in I.E., ran another search and found nothing. So I re-booted.

I got an immediate warning message saying that my active desktop was disabled due to a major change. Now I KNOW I didn't activate it. So … I went to the display options, disabled the active desktop, rebooted and ….

Voila ……

life is primo !!!!

I'm also going to post what I did in that Google link since that other person is having a similar problem.

Everything within this system seems to be acting perfect.

I owe ya'll big time…

Oh yeah …. thanks for the info on O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /installquiet /keeploaded /nodetect. I never seen that one before.
Oh no! Thank you very much! One quick question (probably anyone could answer this). When the machine is completely verified after the fix(s) …. can (or should) the HJT (or any others for that matter) backup files that were created during the repair be deleted in the folder? Ya'll are the masters. Thank you once again.
