firefox etc problems after malware removal

Rorschach112 helped me get rid of trojans and viruses that were infecting my computer. I ran a lot of aggressive malware removal programs. All the logs now come up clear of malware, but my computer is still not running properly. Both firefox and internet explorer crash after about 3 minutes, without error messages - they just abruptly stop running. chkdsk also does this. Microsoft Word does not. I have not tried any other programs yet to see how they behave. I have checked that startup is in Normal mode, following another advice thread. Can anyone give me some advice? many thanks Stephanie.
