Looking for a laptop for an older person. They are over 70 and will just use the laptop for web browing and e-mail, nothing exciting. He is currently using a Dell Latitude C510 or C610 that he borrowed. The laptop is not likely to move much, so other options are OK (like one with a larger screen) but he doesn't need a lot of bells and whistles. He wants to keep costs down, so used is preferable. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks in advance.
Hi :)

Have a look at the Dell Outlet offers. Basically they are returned computers that have been repaired and Dell then sell them cheaper than the original price.
ASUS Eeepc. it comes with linux, it's small and light, its SOLID STATE which means if it's dropped, no hard drive problems.

A rebroken dell?

Why on earth anyone would recommend any form of carp** like dell, hp/compaq, gateway, emachine, etc. is beyond me.

Go Original Equipment Manufacturer, not contracted hardware, you're far better off in the end.
An eeepc is WAY too small. They don't need mobility…probably it will be set up on a kitchen counter and rarely moved from there. As far as recommended machines, I own three Dells. A Dimension 8200, a Inspirion B130, and a Latitude C610. Never had a lick serious trouble with any of them wasn't normal wear and tear. (So far the only thing I have replaced has been power supply in the Dimension) I've made all kinds of Mods to the Dimension…it runs great… Everyone's experience with a particular machine varies. You can say Dell's are %$&#, but its all personal experience. Mine has been fine. I'd never buy an eMachine, but others probably swear by them. Russ F
Russ, Does it have to be a Laptop? Some of the Dell slim-lines are compact enough to possibly sit on the kitchen shelf. Even a slim-line provides more ventilation than a laptop to protect against heat issues. And they can be had for very low price. Doug

Hi.
Prompt please where to download a program to recognize the texts?

thanx.

you may not really want to hijack someone else's thread and might try starting your own New Thread requesting the information, not demanding it, and if you do wish to get help about an issue, you may also wish to provide as much detail than "download a program to recognize the texts" because that is VERY ambiguous and we don't know what you mean.
