RainyDayInParis,

It appears the Favorit is left over from a program called Messenger Skinner.

It should uninstall by use of add/remove programs in the control panel. I believe you've already tried that.

Lets get rid of Favorit this way:

  • Start HijackThis
  • Click on the Config button
  • Click on the Misc Tools button
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
  • A screen will appear with a list of the programs in the Add/Remove Software list in the control panel

Locate Favorit on the list then click on the Delete this entry button.

Then

COMBOFIX-Script

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    File::
    c:\windows\sed.exe
  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Everything seems to be running normally. But there should be 3 more gigs of hard drive space freed up if Favorit is gone, and my C: drive properties box does not say that. It still says I have about 1 free gig. The recycle bin is empty, and the disk cleanup tool says I can only free 41 more kilobytes if I run it. If Favorit is gone, where are my 3 gigs? Thanks, as always, RainyDayInParis
RainyDayInParis,

Ok. If I understand correctly, the uninstall routine only stops the advertising. However, the company provides an uninstaller to actually remove the program.

Go here? to give it a try. The only information you should put in the boxes on the right is the security code. After inputting the security code in the appropriate box, click on Uninstall Advertising. Then just follow the directions.

Let me know how it goes.
Hi Tomk, I just tried twice, and I input the security code. It brings up a page with a button to download the uninstall software. The button leads to a 404 Not Found page. RainyDayInParis
RainyDayInParis,

Please wander over to our "Windows Made Easy" section. In this article, ztrucker explains some harddrive cleanup procedures. I'm thinking specifically about his directions for Revo Uninstaller. Give it a try and see how you go.
