I just installed my 2009 McAfee, and 2 or 3 times a day I get a notice that a PUP has been detected, I have deleted 2 of them, and have a hold on the others.

Also, since the new McAfee installation, I am experiencing a slight delay on some actions, like opening new browsers for example seems to take a lot longer than it did

Here is an example of the screen McAfee gives me for the PUPs:

this one just popped up a few minutes ago:

Name: Generic PUP.z
Location: C:\System Volume Information\_restore{202550A8-7A33-4BCA-9586-051D24DDBF8F}\RP1465\A0277068.ocx
Given that the delays have occurred since you installed McAFee 2009, this is probably the cause - I would guess that it's real-time monitoring is delaying actions until it can scan whatever it is programmed to scan for.

System Volume Information is the location of data held within System Restore points and your scanner is probably being blocked from there to avoid corruption of the files and the failure of System Restore.
Assuming that the PC is otherwise sound, the following will flush System Restore and stop your AV flagging what it is flagging:

Disable System Restore,
Reboot your PC,
Re-enable System Restore,
Create a Restore Point - this will give a clean one should you need it in the future.
A tutorial for System Restore is available here.
Thank you for that…. Do you mean to disable system restore through McAfee or my computer? And…. What about these PUPs?? thanks again :D

Do you mean to disable system restore through McAfee or my computer?

Try clicking the link I provided on System Restore.

What about these PUPs??

Potentially Unwanted Programs is the title given to items that may or may not be malicious, depending on who put them on your system and why. I can't tell you what they are, because the information that you have provided is insufficient for me to do so.

Flushing System Restore will remove the problem, assuming that all detections are within the System Volume Information folder.
sorry it took me so long… I read through that tutorial, and it looks like a novice like myself could screw something up…. Is there any way I can show you these PUPs that mcafee is detecting and determine if they are needed or not?
I cannot tell from the information that you have supplied what McAfee is detecting, but I will make some assumptions.
Given that McAfee has dealt with some of the items that it has detected, as the image you posted shows, I assume that those that are left are either within System Restore Points or you have instructed McAfee not to delete them.
If you have stopped McAfee from deleting them, then you need to scan again and tell McAfee to delete them.
If McAfee cannot deal with them, then they are presumably items that are held within System Restore Points. These points are like photographs of part of your hard drive and can be used to turn back the clock should your computer develop a problem. It is likely that the items in the Restore Points are the same as those that McAfee has deleted, rather than different ones. As a result, the only risk that these items in Restore Points pose is if you use one to restore your computer with.

The usual way to deal with this issue is to flush System Restore. Should an anti-virus program still flag files, then it is time to look more closely.

To flush System Restore:

Go to Start > Control Panel > System > System Restore Tab.
Check the box next to Turn off System Restore on all drives.
Click OK.
Reboot your computer.
Go to Start > Control Panel > System > System Restore Tab.
Uncheck the box next to Turn off System Restore on all drives.
Click OK.

To create a new Restore Point:

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
Click the radio button to next to Create a restore point.
Click Next >
Enter a name for the restore point in the box - Restore Point One, for example.
Click Create.
When the window tells you that the restore point has been created, click Close.

Should you feel unable to do this, then you can simply wait. As well as you manually creating them, Windows also automatically creates Restore Points. Over time the space that Windows has available for these Restore Points will be used up and when this happens your computer will simply delete the earliest point to make way for a new one and so on.

If you look at the image you posted, at the bottom it has a Details box - there should be one for each item detected. If you wish, you can run a new scan of your system and post the exact filename for each item and I will look at it.

I still recommend that you flush System Restore as it is the quickest and easiest way to deal with this issue and then if you are still getting detections afterwards, we'll look at them.
I don't recommend any other way of dealing with items detected in the System Volume Information folder as there is an outside possibility that you can mess up Windows ability to restore itself. So, if there are only SVI files listed, you either flush System Restore, or wait until they are overwritten.
