Sorry PattiChati, but your loosing me here. One post is saying you can't open the reflect ISO, the next is saying you can't find it and I have no idea whatsoever of what the last post means(?)

As you have opened a thread in the melware forum again, I'll wait until that issue is is sorted. It may have something to do with you problems here.

I have followed your progress in the malware forum.

The first thing you need to do for safety sake, is to SAVE YOUR PHOTOS OFF YOUR COMPUTER!

1. Install a CD or a DVD disk if you have too many photos for a CD disk, into you disk drive

2. Right-click the folder on your desktop called "all my photos" / left-click on "send to" / left-click on "DVD drive"

Saving your photos to disk is far more preferable and safer than a thumb drive (USB flash drive).

Cheers,
Lee

I definitely have too many photos for a disk. Why isn't a flash drive good? I thought they were. Is there a DVD big enuf for thousands of pictures, many which are duplicates I think. So I want to backup my pictures and my Microsoft 2010 Excel program where all my financials are. Should I back up these separate too, or should I just back up with the image backup. I have so many backups in different folders and so much stuff on my external hard drive, I just donn't know what is what, or what to do. Where should I start? Also I don't get email notifications that any of you write anymore. I used to. But didn't get the one from this morning. I just keep coming back here to see if anything has been written. I have marked instant notification.

I would concentrate firstly on saving your photos (one thing at a time). We can move on to what else you need to save later. The reason I'm suggesting to save your photos to disk is that thumb drives (USB external flash drives) are no more safe than your PC. They can break-down and become useless. They can also be infected and deny access etc. Right-click on the folder "all my pictures" and click on properties. How large is the folder?

5 gb. As I said, many are duplicates! I just took them from everywhere I saw them. Do they make cd's or dvd's that big? I'll do whatever I have to. I don't want to wait until I have weeded out all the duplicates because that might take a while and would be a good pastime when I am bored!!!

A standard cheap DVD has a capacity of 4.7 GB (single-sided, single-layer) but in reality will only take about 4 - 4.5 GB. Then there are more expensive DVDs: 8.5–8.7 GB (single-sided, double-layer) 9.4 GB (double-sided, single-layer) Stick with the standard cheap 4.7 GB DVD. Two of those will do the job nicely. Create another folder on your desktop and call it "all my Pictures 2". Move half or a least a 3rd of your photos from the "all my pictures" folder to the folder you created and store a folder each on two DVDs. You can check the size of each folder the way I have previously explained.

OK, I don't have any so will have to get some. You explained very well how to get it on two disks, you separate the pics ahead of time!!! You then just copy and paste, correct? In the meantime can you tell me how to find the data on my Excel file and I will put that on disc also. That is 276 kb

No you do not.

I have already explained how to burn them to disk but here it is again for each folder.

Right-click the folder on your desktop called "all my pictures" / left-click on "send to" / left-click on "DVD drive".
Burn one folder to a disk and then do the same for the other folder on another disk.

PS: There is a very simple way to find and remove duplicate photos using this small and free program.
Auslogics Duplicate File Finder. When installing, make sure you untick both "install both the Auslogics Toolbar" and "Set Ask.com as my homepage".

I have an external hard drive, but I am not sure what and how to back it up. I know I want pictures, documents, etc. But I don't know what file to backup?
Also, how can I tell if the backup worked. I will click on a date for a backup and I click on pictures and says nothing matches your search. I don't want to just pick a folder to restore. This is all so confusint to me. I was in a windows 7 forum, but they won't let me in anymore and we were talking about this. Can you help? Thanks.

>>Did I read somewhere in this thread that you have a Western Digital external hard drive?
If so you can use their verson of Acronis free, which is very ez.

So the disk has to be a DVD-RW drive, not just a DVD?
