OK
I think you mentioned this is a Dell machine?
Dell is rather miserly with giving access to sensors.
Let's give another try with Speedfan.
http://download.cnet...4-10067444.html

Please don't make any changes using Speedfan.
Just observe the temperature and voltage readouts.

You may need to take a screenshot in order to effectively post the results.
If that is awkward for you, please write down the Results and type them into your next reply.

As I mentioned before, please go back to my post #4 and follow the directions. This time leave the ethernet cable connected. As long as you don't connect to the internet with your browser you should be okay. After doing each disable step, try opening a file or right clicking on it and see if it's better or the same.

Rich,

I'm confused. Aren't I always connected to the internet with high speed cable whether or not I have my browser open. That's how I get automatic windows and software updates. I guess I must be missing something about how this works. To me, if I'm always connected, I don't want to have my protection programs disabled. I would only ever want to have them disabled if I'm not connected which is why I disconnected the Ethernet cable from the back of the CPU.

I'm not opposed to returning to your post 4 I just haven't yet since Doug hasn't finished with me and as long as it is safe to to so. So far, it isn't in my ignorant mind.

Rush4Rod,

I've reviewed my prior look at the CPU and GPU performance.
While both are slightly lower than other comparison machines, the difference does not appear to be significant.

* I made an error when comparing, because I used the wrong reference group.
As a result, I mistakenly concluded that a problem might exist, that now upon review does not appear to exist.
I'm sorry for the distraction.

It is disappointing that the machine does not give good sensor readings for Temperature and Voltage.

If your machine fans are running vigorously and the case airways are not clogged at this time, you can simply adopt a periodic maintenance schedule to inspect and clean out any dust and debris from the case, airways and fans, with compressed air on intervals of 6-12 months.

Please continue with the investigation as proposed by Ztruker.
