Did you ever get this problem resolved?

You mentioned a Microsoft Uninstall Cleanup? Are you talking about the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility?

Be sure to do this:

1) Uninstall Office complete from add/remove programs. Including all other versions you may have (i.e. 2000, 2007)
2) Run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utillity linked above and find any Microsoft Office entries and remove them.
3) Insert the Office 2003 installation disc and exit the autorun setup that might start right after you put the CD in.
4) Open My Computer and navigate to the CD drive. Right click the setup.exe file and select Run As Administrator.
5) Finish your installation.

Let me know your results.

The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility is what fixes the windows installer starting up all the time. Without having to uninstall or reinstall anything, you could've ran this program, removed the Office entries and your problem would've been solved. You're in a bit more trouble now. :)
