Click "Start", "Settings", and then click "Control Panel". Open the "Display" applet.
Click on "Desktop", "Customise Display..." and "Web".
In the box under "Web pages", select all the checkboxes and click "Delete".

#2Next, launch Notepad (Start>All Programs>Accessories), and copy/paste all the blue REGEDIT below to it
be sure the REGEDIT4 is included.
Save in: Desktop
File Name: fixme.reg
Save as Type: All files
Click: Save

REGEDIT4

This sounds fairly simple. Try this. Control panel>System>Advanced>Performance>Settings>Visual Effects Check "use drop shadows for Icon labels on the desktop" Apply the new settings Hope this helps.

I tried editting my System Performance settings and checked in the drop shadow thing, as well as enable desktop item lock, and my desktop items still have solid colors in the text background.

Also, LDTate, I am not sure where to start or what to do with the instructions you gave me; I need step-by-step instructions.

In display make sure you're theme is Windows XP.

You can make personal modifcations later.

Uncheck lock web items on desktop.

In System performance check adjust for best appearance and apply.

You can modify these settings later as well.

If you still have the solid text color then try downloading and running this utility.

Sometimes if your desktop background image is not a .jpg, it can cause the blue background inside of the icon text. For example, your desktop background might be a .png. Try switching backgrounds, or if your desktop background is not a .jpg, convert it into one. Have a nice day.

Read all these posts had the same problem...HERE IS THE FIX no doubt! Registered just to give it to you....cause it was killing me TOO! >To make background transparent behind the text under your desktop icons you must >not have any web items on your desktop. Right click on your desktop, click "Properties", >select the "Desktop" tab, at the bottom left of this tab click on "Customize Desktop", >this will open a new window called "Desktop Items", in this new window select the >"Web" tab and make sure that there are no items checked in the "Web pages:" frame. DELETE THEM>>>>>

Nothing is checked in the Web pages frame I do appreciate your thoughtfulness of registering to help, though :)

You could try using a third-party utility, such as Iconoid

If nothing is checked are there items you can delete there? I had this same problem and just fixed it with the above directions. You shouldnt have to use a third party progam, because it is scripted in WINXP to use the shadows so you dont have to get a 3rd party program. Delete anything in the checklist.

True Argosfry, there should be no need of a third-party utility since the settings are through the operating system. The reason I suggested it was because Nimsha has been trying quite a few different things with little success. Even what you have suggested has already been mentioned by LDTate, but you want to select all the boxes and click delete.

Nimsha, did you try what wazzup suggested? Right-click the desktop, mouse over "Arrange Icons By...", and make sure "Lock Web Items on Desktop" is not checked.
