Aww thank you Peter   and your welcome my friend. These days a monitor should have both VGA and DVI and even a HDMI port,  it will depend on your video card as well to what it has for a connection port to your viewing device,  my Ra... Go to the full post

The long and the short is that when I tried to download those drivers from NVidia, during installation , it said  it could not because it could not find hardware.

This am I did a system restore and used the NVidia control panel.

It said 353.62 is installed and there is a gaming driver available 355.60.

I do no gaming so did not install the latter.

I do not have a DVI cable to use. Dell said the web cam likely had a ? built in driver which is not compatible with 10.

If I pay no attention to the auto adjust and plug the web cam in when in use I think I can get by. I will read the rest of the posts and reply as issues arise.

It may be coincidental but this light issue arose the moment I set up one drive. I have not now set it up and the light is out. It could be a coincidence though.

I must say you all certainly give it your all and I am very appreciative.

One other thing that has worked for me and other end users is doing a Compatibility Mode, maybe select a Windows 8 or even a 7 mode, find the program in question and right mouse click on it and select Properties and then the Compatabiltiy tab,  make sure to check mark the Compatabiltiy mode box and then the dropdown box will show older Windows versions to choose from,  select what you want to try then select the apply.  I am not giving up that easy yet :pullhair:  we have to try everything,  maybe even throwing a kitchen sink in there somewhere :whistling:

Edit:

I put up a little screen shot for you so you know what I mean so just click the link and scroll down the page a little.

Solved for others on the web. I read countless tales of 'auto in progress' with the same monitor I have.

I am embarrassed to say that when I inserted the power cable, I thought it was seated. This am I figured I have nothing to lose and pressed the power cable in which seated another 1/8 inch. After that, I have not seen this message.

At the same time, unknown tome he web cam is now functioning. This occurred after another system restore.

So, I feel a little  over the time fellow forumers spent with me.

I hope this helps others as it is really all over the web, particularly this model Dell. I think the receptacle for the cord is not normal and you really have to extraordinarily push to seat it.

@ roadrage[You mention compatibility mode and I have seen this but how would I do this with monitor if, hypothetically I had to do it, as the option is not there in device manager. Is it elsewhere.]

Thanks a lot everyone; I really hope I can help you out sometime.

Doh  :wall:  that is one I forgot to mention as well,  start from the simple first then work your way up  (Check your media cables first and make sure your card is snug and inplace) thanx for keeping us on our toes  well look at it this way,  we didn't have to throw the kitchen sink in there and from what we have already told you on our other post you should never have a prolem with anything again for your drivers and monitor, !hooray! Peter! give yourself a big pat on the back

B/c the issues returned, I suspect the monitor is old at 9 years. however, how do you start the compatibility mode process.

I have seen and used it with a program but cannot see where to find the monitor. to do so.

I don't see that opportunity under device manager > monitor, so where else would that option be so I can run it with Win 7 when it worked well.

P.S. Z +T have been my virtual tutors for years now to who I have expressed my gratitude many times.

:wall:  Stupid computers :rant2: ok now that I got that out,  what you need to do is right click on the program,  application,  driver etc...and select Properties then the Compatibility tab,  go to the link below and look at post 1,  this will give you an idea of how it works,  for your monitor though those are mainly a plug-n-play in Windows unless you have something like a touch screen and it is the video drivers that gives it the different resolutions and colors...and Z gave you a link just encase===> Dell E176FPf, V6F01

Thanks a lot for the link to that driver.
I now know what you mean by compatibility and how to use it.

When you say to click on a program, you do mean in device manager - correct?

I double clicked the folder after downloading it to desktop and there were four items within the folder. I did not now what to do as no instructions were given as it said there would be after extracting.??

When you say to click on a program, you do mean in device manager - correct?

Device manager will not have those options,  lets say you downloaded a program or application and when you installed it Windows said it could not run in it's version of Windows so it did not install becuse the program or application was for an older version of Windows,  then you would right mouse click on it the program or application and select Properties and this will get you into the Compatibiltiy mode option,  from there it will install it as if your Windows was an older version of itself.

Edit:

Device manager will give you an option to Roll Back Driver to a previuos version when you right click on it and select Properties and select the Driver tab,  only if your older version is still in the drivers file.

At the bottom of that web page where you downloaded the file look for Installation instructions then select the down arrow and follow the instructions to install.

I downloaded, extracted and there were 3 icons. There were no instructions on any page I was on. One was multicolored, and the other two had to do with writing as in certificates etc.

I tried to upload a print screen of them but it said I was not allowed to upload a file of this kind.

Ok check those cables again and video card,   I am beginning to think your monitor is going south for the winter or your video card,  it works one time and then the next day it does not work,  have you tried just the onboard VGA port ?  that is your motherboards direct VGA port to your monitor ?  and are you sure that when it did work Windows did not update it again ?  your options right now are getting very slim as you have done everything possible and impossible known to mankind and the animal kingdom,  I am thinking water now,  do you have a boat that needs a new anchor...just saying :pullhair:

I am not sure if you have access to another computer to try the monitor on but I would suggest you do find one,  I don't have a monitor like yours and those files and the install directions Dell has does not work,  they are for when you are in Device Manager and select your monitor to do the update or roll back,  maybe go there and let windows do the web search or add that set up file the one that is 2Kb and called setup file, I  don't know why they even put that there on the Dell site,  I tried on my computer and nothing showed up at all,  I think your next step is to do the Dell Update search or have you done that already a zillion times,  anyway give this a try and let Dell do a search and see if anything is suggested by them.  I am including the manual for your monitor as well so look it over real good... the kitchen sink is looking pretty good now to throw in there,  and are you on the same computer right now with the monitor and it is working ?

Now about that Registry Tweak whats that about,  you shouldn't need to Tweak anything,  can you direct me to where or what the exact message or site said ?

Leave your Registry alone and don't touch it or change it unless you know what your doing,  but it is your computer and only my opinion as to the "do not touch"

Dell Auto Detect

Manual

Edit:

On that manual can you read Spanish or Portuguese ? my bad... but it seems any info for that monitor is in non-english,  I will try to find an American standard version,  till then use the Google translator :whistling:

First of all you have dome more than enough and I thank you for your effort. I agree a 9 year old monitor needs replacing. The slight annoyance at this point means it can wait while I seek one out. I'll make sure it has both VGA fo this pc and DVI for the next  if...

Secondly, Win 10, to my knowledge, downlods to a downlod location not the desktop, unless you tweak the registry which I am not going to do. Unlike 8.1 it cannot be changed in IE >options. The desktop is, in my opinion, the best place for the download but not at the expense of damaging the OS. IE dos not work as well as Edge with Win 10 on my pc although I prefer IE 11.

Thank you for all you have done. I owe What the Tech, big time.
