Just to put your mind at ease a bit Peter1, as far as I know, I dont think any of those links were malicious, just annoying spam. I hope your file sharing problems are sorted out soon All the best Chrissy :D

The 'spam' issue was attended to by forum administrators. My file sharing issue is on another thread which is open to anyone. Terri and I have been posting back and forth.

Type network in the start menu search box and click on the appropriate search result. Alternatively, go to control panel - network and internet - network and sharing center. First, you have to make your computer visible to other computers in your network. To do this, click on the customize link appearing on the right side of network connection. A wizard will start which allows customizing network settings. You can change your network name, select the location type and change the network icon. To make your computer visible for other computers in your network select private as the location type. When you are done click on Next. In the next wizard window click on Close.

I have set up homegroups and had file sharing with Win 7 both pcs the newer way. Is this the older way when one of the pcs was not Win 7? If this is the older way of networking so you can share fies, are you still working securely within your home network as you are with homegroup file sharing?
