Had the inspector seen and/or examined the body and the position she had fallen on the ground below before making the statement, or had he only examined the room at this stage? If he had seen the body, were all injuries consistant with a fall or were other suspicious injuries noted? And the positioning of the body on the ground consistant with that of somebody having accidently fallen, or jumped themselves, or was the proximity of the body in respect to the balcony more consistant with having been "thrown" or pushed over the edge? Had the husband tried to harm himself or was a suicide note left written by the husband? Was the telephone cord still intact? Were there any signs of anybody else having been in the room, either staying or as a guest? And just for a laugh, there wasnt a naked man hiding in the wardrobe?

The inspector has employed the "future tense" verbiage "will be a murder case."

The opening line of this story states a "woman,...., "falls" from a 9th story balcony..." with no implication that she was pushed, forced or thrown.

These statements are made by the inspector, "After examining the room and it's contents"

Since the statement is being made by a highly trained professional, and being made at the scene of a death investigation, no statement would be made without deliberate intention to communicate accurate information that can survive rigorous scrutiny.

The investigator was not describing the detected circumstances of the woman's death, else he would precisely indicate this "is" a murder case.

Instead he is making a prediction of which he knows directly that he can be confident.

The inspector knows the deceased woman.

The woman is most likely his own daughter.

The inspector is predicting that he himself "will be" committing a murder, most likely against the husband.

At least at this point, no one has reported hearing the woman say anything. The Inspector did see the body. There was nothing in the way the body landed to indicate if she fell, jumped, or was pushed. A cursory inspection would seem to indicate she died from the sudden stop at the end of the fall. The husband had not tried to harm himself. No suicide note. Telephone cord was still intact and connected to the phone. No sign of a third party in the room. If there had been a naked man in the wardrobe... he was gone before the police arrived. The Inspector was not related to the man or the woman. He had never met or heard of them before. The Inspector made the statement with confidence, but as a trained professional, did allow a little "wiggle room" if further evidence negated his initial findings.

If I could give the inspector some advice, i'd tell him to look closely at the suspects flight itinerary. Where has he been before this episode?

Are they both flying into the same airport on the return flight?

Ding... Ding... Ding...

The Inspector did find their airline tickets in the husbands luggage. The husband had purchased a round-trip ticket for himself... but only a one-way ticket for his wife.

Suspicious indeed!

Congratulations dooks on arriving at the solution to this weeks Monday Madness! :notworthy:

I'll try to sit on my hands until next monday then. In the mean while...........Four jolly men sat down to play, And played all night till break of day. They played for cash and not for fun, With a separate score for every one. When it came time to square accounts, they all had made quite fair amounts. Now, not one has lost and all have gained - Tell me now, this can you explain?
