I have an error message pop up ever once and a while and I have got a screenshot of it. I look for a Windows fix, but theirs only applies to SP2, which I have SP3. Jpshortstuff has read through logs and said there is no sign of malware. Below is the attached screenshot, if you need more info from it, I can get it if it pops up again.
Hi kmssd,

Can you post the link to your HJT log thanks….

Could we also view the Technical information at the bottom of your screenshot please, just click on the second last link where it says, Click here and post the results as you did the first screenshot.

Keep us informed, thank you.

Hello kmssd,

Ipshortstuff does a great job.

I am not a Malware expert or trained at all so I will do my best for you until a Tech Team member comes by.

Would you download and run ATFCleaner.exe by Atribune please and report back if you are still getting the error messages on your system. Read the instructions on the download page to achieve the best results…thanks

kind regards,
Hi kmssd :)

From a look on your attachments over in malware-forum,
it seems that the problem is related to DEP (Data Execution Prevention)

I must ask, do you have any idea of who or what could have changed the
setting for DEP?

Its not a setting that one happens to change by accident,
as the function is well hidden away in the system entry in control panel.
Which is also the first place we will check the settings.

Go to either Start or "My Computer"
Control-panel, then System entry.
Click the Advanced tab, Performance
Click settings, then Data Execution Prevention tab.

Check that the setting is set to: Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only

If not, please change to it, and reboot.

I'll explain a little on the errors you show in your attachment.

svchost.exe : Is a generic host process for services needed to run from the DLL's (Dynamic Link Library)

Hpslpsvc32.DLL: Is the DLL referred to by the svchost.exe. The file is part of Hewlett Packard Digital Imaging tools.
So know we have a rough idea on where to look.

When DEP goes in and blocks for this request, its either due to old software (non-updated, out-dated) or because of the intent from a malicious program. The latter is excluded as you have gotten an all clear from jpshortstuff. The block comes because the request would otherwise make the system / Program severely unstable in some way, and because DEP will not allow data to be run from protected memory locations. Which leaves us with non-updated / out-dated software for one or more of your HP installments.

We will deal with the software issue after you have checked the settings for DEP.

So please report back with your findings, and we take it from there. ;)

I went into the DEP setting within the contral panel, and it was already on the option needed. Now my father recently got a wireless printer (HP Officejet J6480) and I have set it up wirelessly to this laptop, and my two sisters (which the laptops are identical). The programs I installed with it are as follows, listed in Add or Remove Programs HP Document Manager 1.0 HP Officejet J6400 Series (I assume this is the drivers and files necessary for operation) HP Update After checking to see which option was picked for DEP, I don't recall going into there to change it before. Also after I installed the wireless printer I went into Printers and Faxes from the Start Menu and noticed the old printer still in there. So I went to File > Server Properties > Drivers, and uninstalled the driver from the old printer. Checked through the installed programs and Device Manager to make sure there was nothing left of the old printer, which there wasn't.

Very fine. We just needed to be sure that the basic setting was in order.

Which leaves us with updates for either driver and/or firmware. If you installed the printer with the drivers
provided on the CD which comes along your purchase, chances are that there could have been
several updates.

Pick the newest driver and firmware for Windows XP 32bit here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar…378&lang=en

Do note that these drivers are for 32bit XP version only
If you use 64bit OS, please don't use these drivers.

Also be sure to download the special HP driver removal utility for officejet software at the bottom.
Use it to remove old drivers, before you update. These may require a new install in
order to function correctly.

Do yourself a favor before going ahead with this task, and make a system restore point, in case
things turns ugly on you. I have had bad experiences with printer drivers, either they don't like me, or
printer drivers are notoriously unstable….Hopefully the first B)

Start or "My Computer", then All programs
Accessories, then tools
System restore

Follow the onscreen prompts for making a new restore point.

There's also a HP support forum, if you want to search for anything related to this procedure
or your current problem if the above doesn't solve it.

Good luck with it, and please post back if it resolved your problem.

I have done what you said, reinstalled without a problem, updated firmware. The message show up, I have a screenshot if you would like to see it, showing the techinal information.
Hi again :)

Good everything went smoothly. I do hate printer-drivers :D

The message show up

Not so good.

I need to have a thing verified. So heres what I like you to do.
Disconnect the Printer, entirely. Turn on your PC and the network,
wait like 5 minutes, then connect the printer.

See if the error occur.

Please report back your findings.

Regards Abydos
Disconnect the printer, it's wireless so I guess I can turn it off Turn on PC, then Network, I can't turn off the router/modem today, because people will be using it, I can try this tomorrow, but when I can, I should turn off printer, then computer, then router/modem, then power on pc, network, then printer?
