but I am not sure I got rid of the BUM or SHASTA

Have a look in you Add/Remove Programs. Are they still there?

CFScript
Close any open browsers.
Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the code box below into it:

File::
c:\windows\Tasks\AdwareAlert Scheduled Scan.job

Folder::
c:\documents and settings\Owner\Application Data\AdwareAlert

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\control\securityproviders]
"SecurityProviders"="msapsspc.dll, schannel.dll, digest.dll, msnsspc.dll"

DDS::
Trusted Zone: turbotax.com
Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

[external image: Posted Image]

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
When finished, it shall produce a log for you at "C:\ComboFix.txt"
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may cause to your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

Run ATF-Cleaner again.

Kaspersky Scan log

It is taking a very long time to run these scans. ComboFix took about two hours. I started the Kaspersky at 9 last night and by 12 it hadn't finished. I went to bed woke up this morning and nothing? Is there a report stored somewhere? How do I find it? Don't hurry oon the response, I am going out of town for the weekend, leaving now and returning Sunday night. I will continue this process on Monday. Thanks again for all of your help.

It is taking a very long time to run these scans. ComboFix took about two hours. I started the Kaspersky at 9 last night and by 12 it hadn't finished.

So did Combofix actually finish? if so the log can be found at C:\Combofix.txt. As for the Kaspersky scan, it can take quite a while sometimes. If your having problems with them we'll try this:

My desktop is completely gone? I have not run any scans or anything since returning home. I was just checking e-mail and facebook and I got all sorts of popups again. My computer froze up, shut off, came back on with no desktop. I can now only access anything with control-alt-delete and new task with the windows task manager.
Hmmmm…. We were on the home straight. OK, No worries.

Fix Policies
Download FixPolicies.exe from Here & save to your Desktop. This is a self-extracting ZIP archive.
  • Double-click FixPolicies.exe
  • Click the Install button on the bottom toolbar of the box that will open
  • The program will create a new Folder called FixPolicies
  • Double-click to open the new Folder then double-click on Fix_Policies.cmd
  • A black box should briefly appear and then close. This will enable your Control Panel & stop the Administrative warnings, at least until the malware infection resets the registry policy keys again. You can run this as many times as you like. A permanent fix requires removing the infection.

I have not noticed any problems. It has been less than an hour since these scans but everything seems normal.
Thank you very much you are a life saver.
Apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Some personal issues I had to sort out.

Good to hear we're back on track. Logs are looking good. Just a couple of things to do. I would like to have a closer look at Registry Key so please do this:

Export A Registry Key
Open Notepad then copy & paste the contents of the Code Box below into it:
regedit.exe /e C:\reglook.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\control\securityproviders"
notepad C:\reglook.txt
  • Click on File > Save As… & save to your desktop
  • In the File Name box, copy & paste in reglook.bat
  • In the Save As Type box, select All Files from the drop-down list
  • Click Save
  • Double click on reglook.bat to run it. A Command Prompt will open briefly, followed by Notepad shortly afterwards
  • Post the contents of this Notepad file in your next reply
Let's try again with the Kaspersky Scan. Follow the instructions previously posted to run the scan. Bare in mind it can take quite some time, so be patient with it. If however you run into problems with it try the Eset Scan, following the instructions previously posted.

To post in next reply:
Contents of the Registry Export
Kaspersky or Eset Scan log
