I've been trying to get rid of this trojan for a few days now.
I've searched around and have seen various solutions, but none seem to work for me.

On every startup, i would get warinng of c:\windows\maya.exe
Its called Infostealer by Symantec
Something about a Trojan Horse backdoor.generic10.AICG
It would make these weird exe files in my temp folders. (822.exe, 844.exe, 978.exe etc.)
And people have been telling me that I send them links over msn (funpics4u or something like that)
I would also get warning of a threat from gestionelixir.com/scripts/php/nice,maya.exe on my AVG web shield.

I got this virus from my friend's USB key, not from any sites I visited

I've tried using my Symantec Anti virus and it didn't work.
Did a panda scan and it didn't result in anything crazy
Did Kaspersky online scan and it only showed that I had a bad version of Java (fixed i think)
Used AVG and it never seems to get rid of it fully.
Most of the scans I did were in safe mode.
Also used ATF cleaner
I've even brought it to my university anti-spyware company and they couldn't get rid of it.

Here is my HJT log

Thanks for any help you can provide
You have an entry in your log that points to a file on your PC that I would like to have checked - if it is still present.

Please go to Jotti's and click on the Browse… button at the top and navigate to the following file and then click on Submit:

C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-5869810443-9242085524-726977321-1656\sysdate.exe

When all the scans have been completed, please copy and paste the results into your next reply.

If this site is busy, try VirusTotal: Click the Browse … button, navigate to the file and double click it and then click the Send button.

You may need to set Windows to show All Hidden Files and Folders - Instructions can be found here.
* These files are hidden to stop you accidentally removing something important.
It is advisable to hide them again after you have done.
*
I can't seem to find anything in there> I've shown operating files and hidden files, but nothing is in there. But the folder properties shows theres 86kb of something, but I can't see And the sites you provided don't let me open those recycler folders to find that sysdate.exe It doesn't let me send the folder either, saying its 0kb, or there's a firewall/malware preventing it (I turned off firewall and this still happened) Is there anything else I can do?
Oh nvm, I rar'd the folder and sent it in. Here's the scan: Service load: 0% 100% File: S-5-9242085524-1656.rar Status: INFECTED/MALWARE MD5: f42801f531fe8d6e0ef1cfd5594ef167 Packers detected: - Scanner results Scan taken on 09 Jan 2009 08:06:00 (GMT) A-Squared Found P2P-Worm.Win32.Agent!IK AntiVir Found nothing ArcaVir Found nothing Avast Found nothing AVG Antivirus Found nothing BitDefender Found Worm.Agent.W ClamAV Found nothing CPsecure Found nothing Dr.Web Found nothing F-Prot Antivirus Found nothing F-Secure Anti-Virus Found nothing G DATA Found Worm.Agent.W Ikarus Found nothing Kaspersky Anti-Virus Found nothing NOD32 Found nothing Norman Virus Control Found nothing Panda Antivirus Found nothing Sophos Antivirus Found nothing VirusBuster Found nothing VBA32 Found nothing Statistics Last file scanned at least one scanner reported something about: BDLiveUpdate.exe (MD5: a294c8fb7e61fc0ae5e10676c564516f, size: 73728 bytes), detected by: Scanner Malware name A-Squared Riskware.Porn-Dialer.Win32.EgroupDial.x!IK AntiVir X ArcaVir X Avast X AVG Antivirus X BitDefender X ClamAV X CPsecure X Dr.Web X F-Prot Antivirus X F-Secure Anti-Virus X G DATA X Ikarus not-a-virus:Porn-Dialer.Win32.EgroupDial.x Kaspersky Anti-Virus X NOD32 X Norman Virus Control X Panda Antivirus X Sophos Antivirus X VirusBuster X VBA32 X
1) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here and save it to your Desktop.

2) You will need to disable Spybot's Tea Timer function, if it is running, as it may interfere with this fix. - this is a two step process.
First step:
  • Right-click the Spybot Icon in the System Tray (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol)
  • If you have the new version 1.5, Click once on Resident Protection, then Right click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colorless.
  • If you have Version 1.4, Click on Exit Spybot S&D Resident
Second step, For Either Version :
  • Open Spybot S&D
  • Click Mode, choose Advanced Mode
  • Go To the bottom of the Vertical Panel on the Left, Click Tools
  • then, also in left panel, click Resident shows a red/white shield.
  • If your firewall raises a question, say OK
  • In the Resident protection status frame, Uncheck the box labelled Resident "Tea-Timer"(Protection of over-all system settings) active
  • OK any prompts.
  • Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
  • Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.
3)
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • Ensure a checkmark is placed next to both Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version - you'll need to clear it with your firewall.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan and then Scan.
  • When the scan has finished, click OK and then Show Results to view the results - no surprise there!
  • If MBAM finds anything, check the box(es) and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
Let me have the MBAM log, a fresh HJT log (run in Normal Mode) AND a description of how your PC is behaving.

4) Also, run HJT and click on Open the Misc Tools section.
  • Click Open Uninstall Manager…
  • Click Save list… and save it to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste the file uninstall_list.txt into your next reply.
Did the scan twice
First time I had to restart to remove the RECYCLER stuff.
Second time to get the other one

Nothing pops up anymore from AVG.
I'm logged on to msn and waiting for friends to tell me if they get any links.
Overall seems fine

Here's the logs:
