I do not know if this a question for the OFFICE section or not. I am trying to access a file via a web page hyperlink (thats is in MS Office doc) on my PC (XP Pro) is pointing to a Temp file on my user and as a result will now download due to it not being there. The correct path should point towards the download from the server. This happens in Office and Open Office and when I use Safari, IE or Firefox. Any ideas how I get it the Hyperlink to point to the correct file? BTW, it works fine from a Laptop (Vista) I have access to, is it a XP thing?

The Hyperlink when using the Office doc via IE7 is now showing the correct path to the download server. But when using Firefox or Safari, the Office doc Hyperlink is still wanting to download from my Temp file! Also, every time I try and access those files via Safari, for example, the 'reference number' for that file changes. For example its now looking at Saf78.tmp in my Documents and Settings folder whereas earlier it was Saf74.tmp.

DOESN'T ANYONE LOOK IN THIS OFFICE THREAD? IE7 is still pointing the download from the correct location. Safari and Firefox are wanting to downlod from my TEMP file still (on my C Drive). It apears that the Office doc that has the hyperlinks has that TEMP address in its documents properties. Puzzle is how do you change that field in the document properties and how do you ensure that stays like that for all subsequent visits to that hyperlink page.

Hi there, can you please provide a screenshot or explain in detail what you're trying to do? It sounds like you're trying to point a hyperlink from a website to one of your personal files on the PC am i right? I don't see what the point of this is? (Maybe it's me being stupid, but if you could let me know what you're trying to do). Thanks 'Bob

bluesnapper,

To get things straight:

You are trying to create a hyperlink inside a Microsoft Document, say Microsoft Word, and you want it to link to a download on the web. The problem is that in browsers other than IE, instead of linking to the download page, the same link leads you to a file in your TEMP.

Is that correct?

The problem may be that you are trying to directly link to the download server. Try simply copying the URL of the download page, then make that a hyperlink in your document and you will be able to go to that page and then click the download link from there.

Also, you can try clearing your Internet Cache with ATF Cleaner, but the problem will most likely happen again when you download the file and create Temp files again.

If I load this page, http://inquiry.knows...idence_list.doc, with IE and click the hyperlinks on the left, everything works OK as expected.

But if I click those links having first accessed that page via Safar/Firefox then those links point to my Temp folder on my C Drive.

If I access the documents Properties the location field cannot be changed either way.

No, the page already exists from a web page and I am trying to access those links.

If I copy the address of that link having first accessed that page from Safari/Firefox then that also gives me my Temp file address.

Right, i have tried it and i have to say, it's very interesting.

Basically, he's downloads this file: http://inquiry.knows...idence_list.doc with internet explorer. When you open up the file, the links on the right work fine and open up a new page.

When you download the same file on mozilla, the links don't work.

This is a known issue when downloading MS Word documents with Mozilla.

If you check out this link:

http://forums.mozill...h...p;sk=t&sd=a

It seems someone else had the same problem.

All i can suggest is use Opera or IE and report the problem to Mozilla by clicking 'Help' on the toolbar and 'Report a broken website'. Make sure what you're saying is clear so they understand it and hopefully they will address it in the next few updates.

'Bob.
