Hi, Attachments are fine thanks. Scan didn't pick anything bad up, that file was just a backup ComboFix made. Ok, how is the computer running? Has Yoog search gone? Thanks.
Hi, the computer seems to be doing fine and YES - the Yoog search is gone! I didn't even realize it, until you asked! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: I would never have had a chance to manage to get rid of the junk myself. Minor things, I usually fix, but this ……. I asked earlier if it was a good idea to change to NOD32, when my Norton is due to be renewed in a couple of weeks and I guess it is, as you used it - or? I'm performing a CCleaner test every now and then - good idea or not? Is it OK to remove those tracing softwares I downloaded for this session. If - and I say IF - there will be another time, that I'll need help (hope not), I gues you suse both new versions and/or new softwares. Is there anything else I shall think about? Best regards :wavey:
Hi Farmor

Glad to hear things are running better

Click Start >> Run, and then type ComboFix /u and hit enter.
You can now delete any other tools I had you download and use, unless you wish to keep them.

NOD32 is generally a good choice of AntiVirus. It is often recommend, especially over Norton which has been known to perform less well. However, I believe NOD32 is a paid for product, and in my (and many others') opinions you can get free AntiVirus programs that are just as effective. A couple of good free ones that I usually recommend are:
Avast!
AVG Free
I personally use Avast!, but its entirely down to what you prefer. Since they are both free, you can try one, and if you don't like it you can try another. Remember to only have one at a time though, as they can cause conflicts and slow your system down.

If you do remove Norton and uninstall something like NOD32, Avast or Avira, you will need to install a separate, third-part Firewall. Without a firewall you are very susceptible to being hacked, and people could gain access to your computer. If you don't have a firewall I strongly recommend you download ONE of the following:
1) Comodo
2) Agnitum
3) Sunbelt/Kerio

It is fine to run CCleaner to get rid of temp files and other unneeded items. However, I believe CCleaner also has a "Registry Cleaning" component to it? I highly recommend that you avoid automates registry 'cleaning' tools as they are uneccesary and frankly can mess things up - its not wirth the risk. A good, simple (and of course free) temporary file cleaner that I use and recommend to others is something called ATF Cleaner.

Now that your system appears to be clean, theres just a few steps I'd like you to take to prevent any future infections.
  • Keeping your Windows up-to-date is crucial to your computer's security. Please go to the Windows Update Site (using Internet Explorer) and download and install all critical updates on a regular basis.

  • Make sure you update your Anti-Virus software regularly, new viruses are being developed all the time.

  • Some more programs that it would be useful to have [OPTIONAL but RECOMMENDED]:

Download Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5 from here
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.

SpywareBlaster is another real-time scanner that prevents most spyware from even being installed.
    Freely available: Download SpywareBlaster

Download and install the free version of WinPatrol. This program protects your computer in a variety of ways and will work well with your existing security software. Have a look at this tutorial to help you get started with the program.

P.S. I sleep daily and check the forums regularly. I'm happy to help whoever I can on the forums but I'm not losing any sleep over it ;)
Hi :notworthy: My Windows is always up to date it's set to automatic updates and occasionally I go to the site to check that I have the latest. So far it has never failed. My anti-virus is also set to automatic updates, but sometimes it's too automated for my liking. I'm fed up being urged to renew Norton about two months before it's due to end. I don't like that it also shows that my safety isn't 100%, as I don't want to have the UAC ticked. About firewalls - isn't it enough to use the firewall built into my router, that's what some of my sons say. In spite of their saying, I've used both Norton's and the router's up till now. What about Windows firewall? Together with the router? Under your optional section are three softwares. Do you recommend me to use then all three? It seems as I'm going to use more than one pair of suspenders and belts at the same time. But if that's what you recommend, I'll do it. I've bought PC Tools Spyware Doctor - is it OK - perhaps instead of any of those three? Last question (I think) - shall I keep/uninstall: DriverGuide, Ad-Aware, Startup Inspector, DriverMax, Advanced Uninstaller Pro? I think I start getting to old for this. I really liked the DOS environment before Windows, when I knew what the commands I gave both meant and what they did. Nowadays it's a whole science and I'm sure it wont be easier. Elderly ladies perhaps should sit with a cat in the lap in a rocking-chair and knit for the grand-babies. I'm soon turning 70 and I can't say my head and mind are as clear as they used to be. :smack: It's kind of dusty in there. :wavey:
Hi :)

What about Windows firewall? Together with the router?

This is fine if you prefer, they wont conflict and should be secure enough.

Under your optional section are three softwares. Do you recommend me to use then all three?

You can do, it depends on how much free resources your system has. However, it should be sufficient to install only one real-time AntiSpyware program. Spyware Doctor would be fine on its own I believe, though I haven't any first hand experience with the program.

shall I keep/uninstall: DriverGuide, Ad-Aware, Startup Inspector, DriverMax, Advanced Uninstaller Pro?

This is a decision that you have to make I'm afraid. Look at each program in turn and think about how much you use it and whether it is really useful/saving time. I personally have never used any of the listed programs other than Ad-Aware, so I can't offer my own opinions on them.

Any more questions?

Thanks.
Glad I could help you  I hope we don't have to assist you in this particular part of the forum again. We are more than happy to help with any other Tech related questions you may i the other areas of the forum though. Stay Clean!
