Hi Coolcat,

Nothing nasty showing in your logs. There's a couple of things to do, then I want you to post back with a new Hijackthis log and tell us what, if any, symptoms you are experiencing.

Open HJT and do a system scan only, check mark the following lines if present

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - (no file)

Close all other browsers/windows and click fixed checked. Close HJT.

Next Open windows explorer (right click the Start button and click Explore)

Navigate to this folder C:\WINDOWS

  • In the right hand panel look for the presence of this file 1232006602458-integrated.jnlp
  • If found, right click the file and select delete
Close windows explorer and reboot your computer. After the restart obtain a new HJT log and post it in your next reply.

Thanks

I cannot find either of those files, yet if I click on FIND from the START menu, 1232006602458-integrated.jnlp shows up in both C/WINDOWS & also MY DOCUMENTS.
Hi Coolcat,

1232006602458-integrated.jnlp

Use the search like you did and please delete both instances. They where created when you updated your java and are harmless.

How is your computer? Don't forget the HJT log.

Thanks
OK, I'll do as you request. I was on MySpace, creating an additional account when this message popped up plus multiple popups that looked like they were from Microsoft, to download this program for antivirus. I've never gotten anything quite like this but backed out of everything fast but not before copying what it said. Then dumped the cache using CCleaner, then rebooted. What is this? Is this for real or is it a scam? I ran Malwarebites right after I signed offline last night. UGH! OK, now I don't know what to do. I must have accidently deleted my HJT when I noticed an additional program just called sony.exe in the same folder and that was never there before! So I went ahead and downloaded what I thought would be a new version of HJT and ran it, then got an error when I tried to post it that it was an outdated version and to download a different version instead. All I see is a program called HJTInstall with no file extension after it and when I click on it, Windows opens and askes me what program I want to open it with, giving all the usual choices like MSIE, Photoshop and all that carp** that is not going to open this program. Now what???
OK, downloaded the new version from download.com and this one works! LOL

Hi Coolcat,

That's a fake security warning. Let's make sure nothing got in.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : How to Disable your Security Programs
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

[external image: Posted Image]

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Please post the combofix log and a new HJT (hijackthis) log in your next reply.

Thanks
OK. After several attempts I had to completely remove Antivir from the computer as combofix kept insisting that it was still running, after I shut it off and i KNOW it was shut off. Grrrrrr… It also had to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console. Here are the logs.

BTW, earlier today, I was getting a warning that I was out of memory and I had not been on the net THAT long. This was before I got that fake warning message. I have 2 GIG of RAM installed right now which is the max this computer will take as far as I am aware. I did have a lot of programs running and windows open but still, that does not seem right to me! I just thought you should know. Thanks. :)
Hi Coolcat,

Let's take care of your antivirus situation first. Download these 2 uninstall tools and save them to their own folder on your desktop desktop.

http://www.avira.com/en/documents/utils/av…uninstXPeng.zip

http://www.avira.com/en/documents/utils/av…strycleaner.zip

Download a new copy of Avira Antivur and save it to your desktop.

http://www.free-av.com/

  • disconnect from the internet
  • unzip avuninstXPeng.zip
  • double click avuninst.exe
  • let it finish
  • unzip registrycleaner.zip
  • Double click Avira RegistryCleaner.exe
  • when it has finished, reboot and install the new copy of Avira antvir
Then make sure your Windows firewall is turned on, we'll look for a 3rd party firewall when we are done.

Click start, click control panel, click Security Center. At the bottom of Security Center click windows firewall. Ensure it is set to On.

Please post back with a new HJT log and let us know what you are experiencing and how you made out with the antivirus program.

Thanks
Ok, those removal tools were rather a pain in the rear and didn't want to completely work or that's what they said but I forced them to anyway. LOL!

Here's the HJT log. The computer seems to be running a bit better, BTW. ;-)

Hi Coolcat,

I had you use the uninstall tools because a couple of tools found 88 instances of your antivirus and combofix still found it after you had uninstalled it. We may be looking at a Windows issue, but we'll see.

Use your computer for a while then download and run DDS and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————

Please include the contents of the following in your next reply:

DDS.txt

Please attach the second file; Attach.txt. To attach a file, do the following:
  • Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
  • Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
  • Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
  • Click on [external image: Posted Image] to insert the attachment into your post
This will provide some additional information. Let us know of anything you are experiencing.

Thanks
Hi, I have Photoshop open and have been processing some photos. Probably around 20 of them. I am also on the net as you can tell. LOL I just got a warning that my virtual memory is low and that windows is doing something to adjust that. Now what on earth is causing this??? I never had this problem before!!
