Hi Coolcat,

The logs look good. How's the computer?

Open HJT and do a system scan only, check mark the following lines if present

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jp2iexp.dll (file missing)

Close all other browsers/windows and click fixed checked. Close HJT.

Let me know how things are. We'll clean up the tools after I hear from you.

Thanks
Hi Coolcat,

From your desktop please delete
  • DDS.txt
  • Attach.txt
  • Rooter.exe
  • FileLook.exe
You can also delete
  • C:\FileLook.txt
  • C:\Rooter.txt
Eset online can be uninstalled via add/remove programs if you wish.

I suggest you keep ATF and MBAM. Keep MBAM updated and use it regularly.

You may want to consider Foxit Reader instead. It may be a bit lighter on resources.

In either case you should uninstall Adobe Reader 6 first. Be sure to move any PDF documents to another folder first though.

Take care :adios:
I'm still having problems or should I say, they came right back. The computer just hung up out of the blue this morning and everything went white. I did a CTRL ALT DEL and I was able to shut down all the programs I was using but the screen still stayed white, causing me to have to unplug everything in order to reboot. Now what? I ran scandisk the other night and run Antivir every day. I guess I will go ahead and download Spyware Blaster but I have a feeling that's not the problem…
Hi Coolcat,

Let's have a look. Are the symtpoms the same? popups etc?

Download and save to your desktop, RSIT by random/random
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (will be maximized) and info.txt (will be minimized)

Thanks
Well, there's a popup now and again but nothing annoying. Mostly Netflix and stuff like that. Harmless, I suppose?

Hi coolcat,

Sorry about the delay. You have some old Norton (Symantec) files showing in the RSIT log. We'll take care of that and what may be a problem with your java.

First Open windows explorer (right click the Start button and click Explore)

Navigate to this folder C:\WINDOWS\tasks
  • In the right hand panel look for the presence of these files Uniblue SpyEraser Nag.job
    and Uniblue SpyEraser.job
  • If found, right click the file(s) and select delete

Next Click this link to download the Norton Removal Tool

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen…&view=docid

Scroll down to Step 3 for instructions and the link to the tool. Run the tool, then continue.

Next Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.

I see that Viewpoint is installed. Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player’s components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting Disable auto-updating for the Viewpoint Manager – the player will no longer attempt to check for updates. Anything that is installed without your consent is suspect. Read what Viewpoint says and make your own decision.

To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is often installed without user's approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This may change, read Viewpoint to Plunge Into Adware
It is STRONGLY recommended that you remove the Viewpoint products; however, decide for yourself. To uninstall the Viewpoint components (Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player):

  • Click Start, then Settings, then click Control Panel.
  • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • In Add or Remove Programs, Remove the Viewpoint component
  • Do the same for each Viewpoint component.

Next Please download DDS and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————

Please include the contents of the following in your next reply:

DDS.txt

Please attach the second file; Attach.txt. To attach a file, do the following:
  • Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
  • Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
  • Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
  • Click on [external image: Posted Image] to insert the attachment into your post
Thanks

Hi Coolcat,

If they are in this folder C:\WINDOWS\tasks , then they are the 2 to delete.

Yes they are. I'll delete them right now.

As far as that Viewpoint Media Player is concerned, I have deleted that thing over and over again. It always comes back but I did not see that other file until last night and didn't delete it, via add/remove programs, of course.
Hi Coolcat,

Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player’s components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting Disable auto-updating for the Viewpoint Manager – the player will no longer attempt to check for updates.

AOL is propabaly responsible, but such is life. Try uninstalling all viewpoint components, If they return, use the advice in the above quote to stop media player from updating.

Carry on with the rest and let us know how things are.

Thanks
