On my parents computer, the Firefox browser cannot load any pages. IE works fine. The Firefox browser gives a page load error and the message states that it cannot connect to the server.

Their CA antivirus update doesn't work either. The message indicates that the failure is due to an internet connection error. The Windows update doesn't work either.

I tried running the on-line virus can from Kaspersky, but that requires a version of Java that could not be downloaded due to internet connection setting problems. I can't figure out what the settings problem could be. Here is a copy of the Hijack this log. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have found that Firefox does work in safe mode, but not when I boot normally. I have tried using msconfig to disable all the applications that start up. The list of running programs in normal mode is now pretty close to what is running in safe mode, but Firefox still gives the page load error. I have also tried disabling all the add-ons in Firefox, but it still won't work.
Per my last update, I actually have to be in safe mode for the regular version of Mozilla Firefox to work. Using the "Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)" icon to start Firefox doesn't work in normal boot mode.
I have solved this problem. On the Firefox support site, I found a note to download Enum Process to determine what firewalls were running on the system. In addition to the CA firewall which was supposed to be there, something called SYMTDI was there from Symantec Norton Internet Security. NIS was uninstalled from the computer, but evidently the uninstall process doesn't uninstall everything. I ran the uninstaller that is available on the Symantec site and that cleaned up everything. Just want to note that when NIS was uninstalled months ago on this computer, everything worked fine. The problem didn't occur until Firefox was updated.
Thanks for letting us know  Sorry about the lack or response, we are currently overwhelmed with logs and there aren't enough helpers to go round.
