You might be having issues other then spyware.
Have you checked the areas that have cooling fans?
Most laptops have them either on the side and/or the bottom.
Make sure they are clean.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Right now things seem to be running fine. My fingers are crossed because I've been tricked before.

Here's a bit more info not sure if it's relevant.
This is the error I found in event viewer after one of the restarts:

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
APPDRV
AvgLdx86
AvgMfx86
Fips
intelppm

Event ID: 7026

Again, thanks for all you help and Happy Holidays!
c:\windows\system32\drivers\appdrv.sys Description: Dell network driver. Fips.sys FIPS Crypto Driver intelppm, sys The process Processor Device Driver belongs to the software Microsoft® Windows® Operating System or Intel Processor Driver The other two are Grisoft avg drivers. MBAM didn't find anything. Were the filters / fans clogged?
Greetings, I throughly cleaned the fans and I have not had a repeat incident. My laptop stayed on for 3 hours with no issue. It's very likely the fans were clogged or maybe your recommendations rectified the issue. Either way I seem fine now. Thanks so much for your help and time!
Since this issue appears to be resolved … this Topic has been closed. Glad we could be of assistance. If you're the topic starter, and need this topic reopened, please contact a staff member with the address of the thread. Everyone else please begin a New Topic.
