Hello. I am currently using a different computer, other than the one with the virus. Safe Mode with networking doesn't work on the Malware infected computer. When I start the other computer normally, it crashes. I put it in Safe Mode to do a system restore, but all of the restore point have been deleted! So, I'm pretty sure I have some type of virus. I ran HijackThis in Safe Mode, but the results were a lot shorter than if I were to run it in normal mode. I don't know if that will be a problem…

So, I transferred the HijackThis log over the the computer I'm using with a USB…

Also, I think something is screwing around with EXPLORER.EXE. Because, in Safe Mode, the "Do you want to continue running Safe Mode, or do a system restore" dialog box kept on reappearing, and the start bar kept on going away and coming back, which means…EXPLORER.EXE kept on restarting, correct?

Thanks for the help, in advance.
Hi cl_n, welcome to the forum.

Please be advised, as I'm still in training, all my replies will have to be approved by a teacher or expert before I can post them. This may cause some delays, but I will do my best to keep them as short as possible.

To make cleaning this machine easier
  • Please do not uninstall/install any programs unless asked to
It is more difficult when files/programs are appearing in/disappearing from the logs.
  • Please do not run any scans other than those requested
  • Please follow all instructions in the order posted
  • All logs/reports, etc.. must be posted in Notepad. Please ensure that word wrap is unchecked. In notepad click format, uncheck word wrap if it is checked.
  • Do not attach any logs/reports, etc.. unless specifically requested to do so.
  • If you have problems with or do not understand the instructions, Please ask before continuing.
I will post back soon with additional instructions.

Thanks
Hi cl_n,

Since you will be using your usb device to transfer some programs and logs, we will try to protect your clean system as best we can.

Download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs and save it to your desktop.

First please run this program on the clean machine and the usb device you have been/will be using to transfer files, programs, etc. Then continue with the rest of the instructions.
  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
  • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
  • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
Reboot your computer when done.
Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder…it will help protect your drives from future infection.

Download these 2 programs to the clean machine then transfer them to the Desktop of the infected machine.

On the infected machine,
  • Double click erunt-setup.exe to install the program
  • Follow the prompts and install using the default configuration (setup language, install location, shortcuts…).
  • Click No when you are prompted about creating an ERUNT entry in the startup folder.
  • At the next screen, uncheck Show documentation and check Launch ERUNT
  • If ERUNT doesn't start by itself, launch it from the desktop shortcut.
  • Choose a location for the backup

The default location C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT\[today's date] is preferred
  • At the configuration screen, make sure all 3 checkboxes are checked
  • Click Ok to run the backup process
  • When prompted, click YES to create a new folder.
  • Progress bars will show backup status.
  • A confirmation window will popup when complete. Click OK to close.
This next tool must be ran in safe mode

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Please copy and paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum in your next reply.
Please post the log from SDFix and a new HJT (hijackthis) log in you next reply. Let me know if you can get into normal windows now.

Thanks
