Hi scudo,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Then

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot (shut down your computer then restart it).
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Ok thanks for coming on board to help me.

History…The PC is an older one I got from a mate he gave it up due to all sorts of problems slow/ pop-ups and generally screwed taking 10 minutes to boot, Mine needed replacing so I took it and cleaned out as much as I could, run spybot and ccleaner and put AVG and sygate on it.
At first it appeared ok but is now running noticeably slower but not to the point I can`t use it.
A couple of issues are…
1. When using ebay and press refresh (F5) it took me to the orange mobile phone network, I think I found the programme for that and just changed a couple of file names and that appears to have cured it but the programme still exists (I didn`t want to just delete it)
2. When using Utube it nearly always asks to upgrade the `flash player` I do that and all is ok til the next boot and the same message.
3.When using photobucket for saving pictures, most of the time has a button for uploading pictures from PC missing, other times its ok.
4.When opening microsoft word or excel its running noticeably alower but again it is usable.
The time lag from `my` cleaning up the PC to it running slower is approx 3 months.
Although this is a rather loose description, in general terms the PC feels like if I just done a clean install of windows it would be sooo much faster.

So here is the logs for Malware and Hijack :-

scudo,

  • Please open HijackThis and run Do a system scan only
  • Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below(if present):
    • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VCSPlayer] "C:\Program Files\Virtual CD v4 SDK\system\vcsplay.exe"
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd.exe"

      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
  • Close all programs except for HijackThis.
  • Click on Fix checked
  • A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES.
  • Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.

Now take it for a test drive. See how it is working and let me know.
I have fixed the 4 items in Hijack and my PC appears to be running well enough with no major issues. So far Utube seems to working ok although yesterday I did have to install flash again but today it has been ok. But the photobucket issue is still there but that might be another problem as I dont think it is `virus` related. Thanks for your time and help given. I would like to add that all the steps provided for doing the various checks were easy to follow and easy to understand. regards Scudo
scudo,

Glad to hear it.

You need to create a new Clean restore point.
Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it (something you'll remember) and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

Remove all previous Restore Points
Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

cleanmgr

At top, click on More Options tab. Click Clean up… button in the System Restore box. Click on Yes button. When finished, click on Cancel button to exit.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

The following is my standard advice for the future. Use what you can and pat yourself on the back for what you're already doing.

Please take time to read Preventing Malware - Tools and Practices for Safe Computing. Very important information for your consideration is contained therein.

I would also suggest you read this:
