Hello and welcome to Posted Image

Please be advised, as I am still in training, all my replies to you will be checked for accuracy by one of our experts to ensure that I am giving you the best possible advise. This may cause a delay, but I will do my best to keep it as short as possible.

I am checking your HJT log now and will post back shortly with instructions.
Hi again.

I see you have Viewpoint installed.
Viewpoint Manager is considered to be foistware rather than malware, since it is installed without your approval but doesn't actually spy or do anything "bad".
This will soon change, according to this article, which you may want to read: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
I recommend that you remove the Viewpoint products. If you do decide to get rid of it, please remove all references to Viewpoint from Add/Remove Programs.

Click on Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > highlight and remove all references to Viewpoint - i.e. Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player.

Finally, navigate to C:\Program files to delete the following folders if they still exist:

Start>My Computer>double click Local Disk(C:) > double click Program files> look for:

C:\Program Files\ViewManager <– and delete this folder
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint <– and delete this folder

Next:

* Open HiJackThis
* Click on Do a system scan only
* Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below (if present):

* Close all windows except Hijackthis and click Fix Checked
* Click Yes when prompted
* Close HijackThis.

NOTE:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

This entry belongs to your Realtek AC97 Audio - Event Monitor.
It is considered a "Slyware" file used surreptitiously to monitor one's actions.
It is not a sinister one, like remote control programs, but it is being used by Realtek to gather data about customers.
If you would like to stop it from starting up each time you log on then include that line in the HJT list above, to be 'fixed'.

Hi es4245

Just a few more things I would like you to do.

Please Click on Start> Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs

A Currently Installed program list will populate.

see if you can locate the following programs:

  • Coupon Printer for Windows
  • CouponBar
  • PopCap Browser Plugin
  • Java™ 6 Update 7
  • WildTangent GameChannel

If they are listed click > REMOVE

  • Please advise if you have any difficulties locating or removing those programs
.

Next I would like you to do an on line scan to ensure everything has been removed.

Run the following scan: Eset Online Scanner

  • Place a check mark in the box YES, I accept the Terms Of Use
  • Click the Start button.
  • Now click the Install button.
  • Click Start. The scanner engine will initialize and update.
  • Do Not place a check mark in the box beside Remove found threats.
  • Click the Scan button. The scan will now run, please be patient.
  • When the scan finishes click the Details tab.
Copy and paste the contents of the C:\ProgramFiles\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt into your next reply.

  • Once complete please post the results along with a fresh HJT log.
Hi Catbyte, I was unable to delete CouponBar from the add/delete program list, all others were no problem. Here are my new log files.
Thanks,
Ed

  • Downloading cracks and keygens via a p2p program is the leading source of infections.
I see you have limewire installed.

You would be doing yourself a favour to remove it.

You can delete it via Add/Remove Programs

Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall Limewire.

I'd like you to read the Guidelines for P2P Programs where we explain why it's not a good idea to have them.

You have your system well protected with Windows One care. Automatic updating is set by default < ensure this setting remains.

In addition consider the following recommendations:

: Consider using a HOSTS file :

A Hosts file will prevent your computer from any known malware and spyware sites by redirecting the connection request to 127.0.0.1,

which is your local address. You may download the MVPS Hosts File by clicking >>HERE<<

Note: Be sure to follow the instructions to disable the DNS Client service before installing a custom hosts file.
Also: subscribe to the mailing list to get update notifications.

:Take care when downloading programs:
  • Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.
  • Don't click on links inside popups.
  • Don't click on links in spam messages claiming to offer anti-spyware software; because most of these so called removers ARE spyware.
  • Download free software only from sites you know and trust.
  • A lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.
  • Before downloading, it is crucial to check whether the source is reputable.

A lot of malware these days will 'hitch a ride' onto your computer if you happen to land on the wrong page even without clicking a link.

One way to check is to use McAfee SiteAdvisor.

Copy the domain name into the space provided and SiteAdvisor will give you a report on the website which can help you decide if it is safe.

The site offers a download for a toolbar for IE and a Firefox AddOn which adds this functionality to your browser.
