I ran Malwarebytes last night before I left the shop and saw it was stuck this morning. I guess it doesn't proceed withthe scan if Avira finds something. So after I clicked quarentine on Avira, Malwarebytes finished (after 16+ hours) with no infections.

How are we looking on the virus and malware front?

Now we just need to update Java for security reasons

Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.

***Please close any instances of Internet Explorer before continuing!***

  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select.
  • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.

Then download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 10.

1 last HJT log and let me know how things seem to be running.
I don't use the PC Anywhere anymore. That was a quick fix while we were moving from old building to new.
I have not had a chance to realy see how the computer has been running. I had some problem with the JAVA install. Actually I think I did the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11 and then realized you had Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 10. So I found the 10 in the archives and downloaded that one but it wouldn't install ??

So do I ever need to run the Combofix again ? I wanted to clean up the desktop a little and was wondering what could stay and what should go.

And what do you say about ZoneAlarm. My brother said I should install it, but I said "HEY! bob4 didn't say anything about ZoneAlarm" and he said who's bob4 … I told him if he don't know then I can't help um.

Can you imagine someone not knowing Bob4 ?

There was a paid subscription, but I do not believe it was up to date.

This is more than likely why you became so infected. Anytime your anti virus tells you it's out of date have it updated.
If they want monies and you don't want to pay you'll need to look for another free anti virus program. But don't run an outdated anti virus program. It's next to useless. Also never run 2 of them together. This holds true for firewalls also. We'll cover that in a minute.

(JRE) 6 Update 11 was the correct choice. They update that often and I was behind the times. Thanks for letting me know.

Your logs are clean. :yeah:
Time to clean up .

Your Brother was right in recommending a firewall.
I find Zone Alarm to be a bit of a resource hog.
But you can try it if you like.

A few words on Microsofts firewall in XP . It only works in one direction. Incoming.
That means if something gets by it you would never know it was trying
to contact the internet.
Example: A bad program installs itself. You would never know it was contacting the internet.
Downloading other nasties and so forth.

If you decide to run one of these you should be certain Microsofts firewall is disabled.
To disable it.

I will list a few free firewalls for you. These are good (free) firewalls:

Never run 2 firewalls together. They will interfere with each other.
So just download and install one!

Comodo If choosing this one be sure to UNCHECK install ask tool bar during installation,

Sunbelt Personal Firewall

Online armor Firewall

So many people are point and click crazy either because there naive or their in a rush.

Always watch closely to any software your installing.
If they want to install something more than their program stop right there and investigate what it is they want to place on your computer.
If they give you the option not to install it choose that until you investigate it completely.
The more you install that you don't want or need the more you'll wish you didn't.

Download and Install a HOSTS File
A Hosts file is a plain text file which prevents your computer from connecting to malware and spyware sites by redirecting the connection request to 127.0.0.1, which is your local address. If you use a proxy server, or if you are on AOL, be sure to read the special instructions.
You can download the MVPS Hosts File and see a HOSTS file tutorial here :
This website also contains useful tips, and links to other resources and utilities.
