Micah, I goofed and didn't check to see if incredimail was installed, well it is and I need to find out how to restore the backup.
Micah, Incredimail isn't that important to Brandon he may well delete it. no real harm done. Had I read a little more carefully the first time, I probably would have checked first anyway. I appreciate your help ! Andy's computer should be my next log submission sometime soon. Thanks newtech
Hellow Micah!

This is the log file from computer #2 Andy's.

Hi newtech!!!!

I thought you'd taken a sabbatical to Tibet or something. :D

You've got Hijack This! in a "temp" folder. Could you move it to a permanent folder (suggest "C:\HJT\") ?

This log does have it's problems.

Do you know what this is?

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [title user] C:\PROGRA~1\GREYER~1\site date list.exe

It has all the earmarks of a LOP infection.

If you don't recognize that program as being something valid and useful, please do the LOP fix:

Click Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and uninstall 'Window Search', 'Window Searching', 'Lop.com', 'LOP SEARCH', 'Browser Enhancer', or 'Ultimate Browser Enhancer' if listed. You may be given a code to insert, do so and reboot when done.

If not listed there, go here:

http://lop.com/new_uninstall.exe

download and run this uninstaller. Reboot when done.

There are other things in the log that need fixed.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This! and fix these items:

O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 auto.search.msn.com

O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 search.netscape.com

O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 ieautosearch

O1 - Hosts: "FALSE");

O1 - Hosts: myRepeatArray[3] = "10";

O3 - Toolbar: RdrInsideDead - {33ED6FBE-7BD6-450D-89E7-7B26A3A07FCE} - C:\PROGRA~1\DOWNLO~1\once kind.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinTools] C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools\WToolsA.exe

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} - http://207.188.7.150/146c36ac68c67f1a6d04/netzip/Rdx

Fix this one:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [title user] C:\PROGRA~1\GREYER~1\site date list.exe

If you do not recognize it, and the LOP fix failed to remove it.

Reboot.

Delete:

C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools <— FOLDER

Delete this one:

C:\PROGRA~1\GREYER~1 <— FOLDER

If you do not recognize it, and the LOP fix failed to remove it.

Just an FYI, the IP address in your hosts file traces to here:

These need fixed as well:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
Micah, Please forgive me there is a problem here I need to rectify. You told me that hijack this is in a temp folder, and recommended that I make a folder C:\HJT\. I put this program in it's own folder on the C: drive and it's path is C:\hijack this. I did this before I sent the log to you. What's going on? I feel that I'm missing something. When I downloaded hijack this, I put the zip file on the desktop. I named a new folder "hijack this" and exported the unzipped file to the new folder. After all that I deleted the zip file on the desktop. I don't understand why you say I have this in a temp folder. I take it that there is something in the log file and that's what you're basing your beliefs on. I did nearly the same procedure on the previous computers #3 and 4. It's important to me that you think I'm acting in good faith. I value the time you spend helping me. I do my best to follow directions and hope to learn from this help. I am a student of computer networking and hope to someday work in the field. I wonder if God is trying to tell me "find another line of work?"
That's bizarre??!!?? The only clue I have to the location of Hijack This! is from the log file entry: C:\Documents and Settings\Andrew\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exe From that it appears it's in a "temp" folder. If you say it's in a "good" folder, I'll take your word for it. There are probably other reasons it appears to be in a different location. I've always considered you "acting in good faith" and following instructions (when they are correct) to the best of your ability. From what I've seen in your posts, I'd say even if I told you to do something "wrong" you'd catch it and question me about it. I think you're a pretty sharp cookie
micah,

Thanks for the reply!
I think I've made all the proposed changes. Here is the latest log file.
Should I report that lop infection to McAffee? this computer does have an antivirus.

Maybe I have been overlooking something.

Do you recognize this?

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = 192.168.0.158:PCI b

That IP address traces here:

OrgName: Internet Assigned Numbers Authority
OrgID: IANA
Address: 4676 Admiralty Way, Suite 330
City: Marina del Rey
StateProv: CA
PostalCode: 90292-6695
Country: US

First I thought it may be related to your home network. Now I think if you do not recognize it as something good and useful, it should be "fixed" as well. It may be responsible for some of the things coming back.

The rule of thumb about "R1" entries is - If you don't recognize it… FIX IT!

After fixing what you need to fix, reboot and post a new log. :)

P.S. I don't know if they want LOP infections reported or not. They are "browser" infections not viri.

Micah, One more thing, hijack this is filling it's folder with backups (pretty quick too). I'm thinking about just deleteing a bunch of them… Every time I do another scan there seems to be more backups of course that's supposed to be that way right? I'm going to go get some shut eye. Something tells me you must be in Europe somewhere. Your clock is really ahead of mine. I'll check the bulletin board tomorrow. happy hunting!
OK.

I did some more research, and I believe if you use Spybot Search and Destroy, and Adaware it will fix the problem.

Please download and run Spybot-Search&Destroy and Ad-Aware; they are the standard programs for finding and cleaning crapware off your system. Here are links to both programs, and instructions for their use.

Get Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de (This is the NEW Version 1.3)
Get AdAware 6 from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download

Download and install these programs in their own PERMANENT folders if you don't already have them. If you do have them, make sure they are UPDATED AND CONFIGURED AS DESCRIBED.

To run Spybot S&D:

After installing first press "Online", click on "Search for Updates", then select all updates. Beside the download button is a little down-pointed arrow, which gives you a choice of several download sites; select one of the servers listed (the Australian server usually works well). Now, press "Download Updates." If that site doesn't work or you get an error message, try a different server.

When the updates are finished, close your browser and ALL WINDOWS EXCEPT THE ONE SPYBOT IS RUNNING IN, then press 'Check for Problems'; THE SCAN WILL TAKE SEVERAL MINUTES. Have SpyBot remove all it finds THAT ARE MARKED IN RED. When it's finished, REBOOT your system.

Then, Run ADAWARE:

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate" button at the lower right of the panel. The current ref file should read at least 01R312 30.05.2004 or a higher number/later date. Updates for this program come out frequently to keep up with new malware. THIS IS CRITICAL; updating is as important as installing these programs.

Then ……..
Make sure the following settings are made and on ——-"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

then……
click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options ON: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

then………
go to settings(the gear icon on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and click "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ………..then…….."Cleaning engine" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then…… click "proceed" to save your settings.
To scan, click NEXT. This scan will also take several minutes.

When the scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press "next" and then say YES to the prompt, "do you want to remove all these entries?" Reboot again.

Then post a fresh log file in this thread. :)
Hello Micah,

I took the liberty to once more remove one of the recurring problems. Let's see how it is now.

I also followed the other instructions too.
