Hi all,I keep having problems connecting, this is recent, nothing new that is causing problems that I can see.
I run connection diag. and I keep getting the"windows cannont connect using HTTP" etc…
also it has become very slow as of late and I can't help but think it's because of the games my kids play, such as,Runescape, and Kongregate site.
I use Kaspersky Internet Security and do regular scans.
I am a little pc savvy but not to this extent.
Can someone please check my log and help me.Thanks in advance.
I am using XP pro.ver 2002 sp3.

Hi beserker,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

BitTorrent DNA
You have BitTorrent DNA, a P2P/file sharing programs installed on your computer. P2P applications like it are the largest source of malware we see. You'll be doing yourself a favor by removing it.

References for the risk of these programs can be found in these links:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/commun…protection.mspx
http://www.techweb.com/wire/160500554
http://www.internetworldstats.com/articles/art053.htm://http://www.techweb.com/wire/1605005…cles/art053.htm
See Clean/Infected P2P Programs here

I would recommend that you uninstall BitTorrent DNA, however that choice is up to you. If you choose to remove these programs, you can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.

If you wish to keep it, please do not use it until your computer is cleaned.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link –> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
4. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you -- please tell your helper.
5. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
Hi Tomk, first off,I would like to thank you for your reply and help,it's greatly appreciated.more than you know,I feel so helpless and am suffering from information overload.lol.

I will follow your instructions and advice to a T.

Bitorrent is deleted. Is Limewire ok?should I delete?I use it often but never keep it running.(get in,get what I need, get out)

by the way,the first 2 links for Combofix have missing & corrupt files.link 3 works fine.

ran combofix and here is the log…..

beserker,

The same warning would apply to Limewire. Using P2P programs is extremely risky. The risk isn't based upon how long you're connected. It's a function of information transferred. Every time you download a file, you are at risk.

Quite frankly, I didn't find what I expected with that scan. I'm not seeing an obvious cause of your problem. Let's run a couple tools that are mostly general cleaning and then get a different scan.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Then

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot (shut down your computer then restart it).

Next

Disable resident protections (Antivirus…); you'll re-enable them after the scan

Download Lop S&D < here

Double-click Lop S&D.exe
Choose the language, then choose Option 1 (Search)
Wait till the end of the scan
Post the log which is created: (%SystemDrive%\lopR.txt)

Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi Tomk, again thanks for the help.
the results of the scans look promising…nothing detected as far as I can see.

by the way,the malware link isn't working,so i copy pasted the mbam.exe. and got it from bleepingcomp..,

my pc is running faster than before, although pages take awhile to load(I have extreme high speed)…is there a way I can test my actual speed to see if my provider really is giving me extreme high speed or not?

My kids play Runescape and other games like this and I myself play CombatArms quite often,I was wondering if these have malware/spyware or viruses embedded.I googled it but the results are inconclusive.

I also suspect a keylogger is on my pc somewhere but so far nothing has detected it.
another curious thing happens every so often,I will click on a trusted link, either in my favorites or on a page, and I find that I must click twice for the link to work.,it gives me the impression that ,
A) my keystrokes and mouse clicks are being recorded. or B) that my pc is somehow being remote controlled.

beserker,

You can run a speed test here:

You are correct. Nothing nefarious is showing. I haven't found anything to account for your problems. I must assume that it is not malware related.

The following fix is for a couple of programs that are not "bad" but don't need to run at startup. I doubt it this will speed you up enough to notice.

  • Please open HijackThis and run Do a system scan only
  • Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below(if present):
    • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Profiler] C:\Program Files\Saitek\Software\Profiler.exe
  • Close all programs except for HijackThis.
  • Click on Fix checked
  • A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES.
  • Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.

Log looks good :D

Time for some housekeeping
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK
  • Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
  • [external image: Posted Image]
The above procedure will:
  • Delete the following:
    • ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
    • VundoFix backups, if present
    • The C:\Deckard folder, if present
    • The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
  • Reset the clock settings.
  • Hide file extensions, if required.
  • Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
  • Reset System Restore.

Please re-enable any security that was disabled.

Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week
(Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over.
I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients.
Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

Understanding and Using Firewalls

Keep Microsoft Windows Updated - This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. The easiest way to do this is to turn on Automatic Updates. Do this by:
  • From your desktop, right-click on My Computer,
  • click on Properties
  • Select the Automatic Updates tab
  • Click on Automatic
  • Click on Apply button
  • Click on OK to exit.
If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, until there are no more critical updates.

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer
settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Download and install the free version of WinPatrol - This program protects your computer in a variety of ways and will work well with your existing security software.
Winpatrol

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly.
Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.

beserker,

I ran the speed test,is this good,I don't know what is good or bad.

I don't know alot about this. I don't have access to cable or even DSL. To me it looks like great cable download speeds and good DSL uploads. As I understand it, ISP's sometimes guarantee a minimum thoughput. Check these numbers against what they promised.

You are very welcome!

Glad we could help.
