Hi techs I am having major slowdown problems on this PC. I have tried running many different scanners and programs and when I run a registry checker I get the infamous Blue Screen of Death that says "REGISTRY ERROR". I am at a loss here and hoping some kind soul on these forums could help repair this problem for me. Sometimes the PC will not connect to the wireless network in the house…but it's intermittent. If I game online the game really lags when action occurs…for example playing a first person shooter like Left 4 Dead.

Here is my HijackThis log any help, input or feedback is really appreciated. Thank you for your time.

You do not seem to have an antivirus program installed. ASquared is not an antivirus program. Please download and install one of these free ones.

Hi Chicoman,

I do not see an antivirus program installed, it will be an uphill battle without one.

LimeWire and Vuze
You have LimeWire and Vuse, P2P/file sharing programs installed on your computer. P2P applications like it are the largest source of malware we see. You'll be doing yourself a favor by removing it.

References for the risk of these programs can be found in these links:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/commun…protection.mspx

http://www.internetworldstats.com/articles…cles/art053.htm

I would recommend that you uninstall LimeWire and Vuze, however that choice is up to you. If you choose to remove these programs, you can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.

Vuze is further identified as an unsafe P2P program.
http://malwareremoval.com/p2pindex.php

If you wish to keep them, please do not use them until your computer is cleaned.

Since this computer has been unprotected we will take a deep look.

Download the GMER Rootkit Scanner. Unzip it to your Desktop.

Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.

Double-click gmer.exe. The program will begin to run.

**Caution**
These types of scans can produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any
"<— ROOKIT" entries unless advised!

If possible rootkit activity is found, you will be asked if you would like to perform a full scan.
  • Click NO
  • In the right panel, you will see a bunch of boxes that have been checked … leave everything checked and ensure the Show all box is un-checked.
  • Now click the Scan button.
Once the scan is complete, you may receive another notice about rootkit activity.
  • Click OK.
  • GMER will produce a log. Click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "GMER.txt"
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop.
If you do not receive notice about possible rootkit activity remain on the Rootkit/Malware tab & make sure the 'Show All' button is unticked.
  • Click the Scan button and let the program do its work. GMER will produce a log. Click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop

Please post back with the GMER log.

Thanks
Old Man thank you for getting back to me. When I run the GMER program the scans starts but then I get The Blue Screen of Death error which reads as follows…. REGISTRY ERROR Stop: 0x00000051 (0x00000004, 0x00000001, 0xE303BA28, 0x000801E0) That is the complete error I hope you can help me out here…I'm really frustrated I appreciate all the help and info. Cheers Chicoman
Hi Chicoman,

I see you posted in the Hardware/Software forum also. Let's wait to see if they have any suggestions as it seems when we run a tool that heavily acceses the registry you get the error. We may face that with most of the tools we use in this forum.

I am not abandoning this thread, just waiting for some input from the Hardware/Software Techs. :)
