[Resolved] ad.yieldmanager

Back around the first of this year I was infected with ad.yieldmanager and I came to you for help and with in a couple of days my problem was gone or so it seemed. After the cure I would still see it but only on my home page and then it would be very sporadic. Now it has reemerged and has come back with a vengeance and my home page and the ability to check my email from there are nothing short of a night mare. When I go to any other pages on the internet everything is fine but when I try and click back to get to my home page I never know what to expect when and if I can get there. When I click on checking my email everything is fine till I try and come back to the home page and click the back arrow and find that the back address is changed to my check email address so I am stuck there till I right click on the back tab and get a list of addresses starting with Back to [

and then to redirect and then my home page address which I click and I’m back home, but it takes forever to down load the page. There is never any advertising on the home page or the e-mail page even though is supposed to be, it only says the page cannot be displayed.

It is either spreading or something else has gotten in since now everything is slow and takes forever to load a page.

DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix, Vundofix, or HijackThis fixes without supervision.

Doing so could make your pc inoperatible and could require a full reinstall of your OS, losing all your programs and data.



Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.


Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.


Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Next:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : Protective Programs

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish if needed.

Did a system scan only then checked the boxes indicated and rebooted and new hijack this log to follow.

Opened IE Browser and still slow with temperature and e-mail still freezing home page for about 20 seconds until they come on.

Clicked on favorites and went to a page and came back and my back arrow is still on and when I put my cursor over it shows Back to Redirect (used to say back to ad. yieldmanager and then redirect). Then if I right click on the back arrow it gives me a list starting with redirect then Comcast sign in and then Comcast net home and below that is History. Forward arrow stays dark so I can’t go back to where I just came from.

If that still didn't work, try this:


Lets reset the settings. All your temporary internet files, probably including navigating history, will be deleted!


Open Internet Explorer

Go to Tools and choose for Internet Options

Go to the Advanced tab

Now see whether the problem has stopped. Your Add-ons are also disabled at the moment so lets enable them:



Go to Tools then navigate to Manage Add-ons and click on Enable or Disable Add-ons

In the list of Disabled Add-ons please click on the upper one

Click on Enable

Do this with all the Add-ons

Click OK

Here are more problems from yesterdays try:
Back button stays on after coming back to home page,placing cursor over it and I get Back to Redirect. Right clicking on Back arrow I get a list starting with Redirect, Comcast.net sign in, Comcast.net Home, History.

Temperature and email on home page are still hard to load and freeze home page until they load. Checked email and tried to get back to home page and back arrow was locked into web mail address, had to right click Back arrow and go down list to get to home page address.

Sometimes coming back from email or just another web page my home page will load (execpt for temperature and mail) and then drop off line for about 5 seconds then come back on with temperature and email.

Ran Hijack this and checked RO-HKCU\ and clicked fix and rebooted.

opened up IE explorer and it said new home page was About Blank, changed back to comcast.

tried resetting the the settings and in the end all add ons were still enabled.

Be sure to do this:
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

    I don't know what's causing the issues you're still having.
    Your logs look clean to me.

    You could try visiting windows updates and update to XP3 and IE7 to see if that helps.
