You can use windows sfc (system file checker) You'd need your XP CD to make this work.
Click Start> Run> type sfc /scannow Note the space.
(Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow)
I don't have the CD for it, when I bought the PC from Dell I wasn't given one, it was only when I bought our second PC that I realised there was the option to purchase one. I have the disk for the second PC, but that is Win XP Home, so I think is no use.
