Are you using 3rd party software to download the PoP mail and then give it to your outlook ?
Do you sync your Outlook with a PDA of some kind ?
Typically dups do not happen often. Outlook keeps track of the messages it downloads. However, if the 'downloading new mail' task does not complete successfully, then Outlook will err on the side of caution and begin downloading messages from the beginning again. If you are using one of the above 2 scenarios, then duplicate mail messages are a known issue. There ARE add-ins, (for a small fee,) available for Office that will hunt and delete them if you prefer.
If your Anti-Virus software is scanning your e-mail, (which it should, or get a new one,) make sure your AV software is fully updated.
If the problem persists, you can dis-able the AVs add-in scanner and try it; though you will want to be VERY careful about opening any e-mail attachments, (as in....I would not do so unless it is scanned first,) until your e-mail scanner is back online.
Tools----options---click the -advanced options- button
When the "advanced options" window opens, click the -Add-In Manager- button, it will open another window,
un-check the email scanner add-in and [ok] [ok] back to Outlook, close wait for 30seconds, (outlook's window goes away but the program is still "closing" in the background....and cannot be "opened" while it is not done "closing".)
