Howdy faith_n_missouri and welcome to the forums,

My name is flashh4 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:
1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
3. Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"
(Just because you can't see a problem doesn't mean it isn't there)
4. Please note you'll need to have Administrator privileges to perform the fixes. (XP accounts are Administrator by default)
5. Please let me know if you are using a computer with multiple accounts, as this can affect the instructions given.

If you can do those things, everything should go smoothly

Please note that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.

If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the HJT forum and wait for help.

Note: I am still in training at Malware Removal, however I will be working under the direct supervision of one of our Malware Experts. Any recommendations will first be approved before being given to you. Because of this, there may be a short delay in getting our responses to you, however be assured that we will be working diligently on your problem.

I will be back as soon as possible with a fix !!
In the mean time can you give me an Uninstall list please !!

  • Open HijackThis.
  • Click on the Open the Misc Tools section button.
  • Look under System tools.
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager… button.
  • Click on the Save list… button.
  • It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.
  • Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply.

Thanks
Chuck

Hi again, I had one heck of a time logging on Windows. It went to a blue screen and said something along the lines of A problem caused windows to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available. Then went to Safe mode. Rebooted and message said Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.

Trend Micro Antivirus seems to be the one having a hard time loading. It has rolled back on one of its updates.
Once it started normally today, a screen came up and said. "Problems found in the latest Security update, using previous update until corrected update is found.
Also Spare Back up doesnt always load, causing the computer to freeze.

Just now another screen popped up, its Problem Reports and Solutions.
If you need any info from there, let me know.

Thanks, Glenda

Howdy faith_n_missouri, your log is clean of infections.
With that said you may want to check to see how much ram is installed and how much space is free on your hard drive.

For slow running computers: http://malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtopic….=344353#p344353

……………………………

Congratulations you are clean! :)
Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Disable and Enable System Restore-WINDOWS XP
This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:

Turn off System Restore
  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check Turn off System Restore.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
  • Reboot.
Turn ON System Restore
  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.

Here are some free programs I recommend that could help you improve your computer's security.

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6
Download it from here. Just choose a mirror and off you go.
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spybot properly here

Install SpyWare Blaster 4.0
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Blaster here

Install WinPatrol
Download it from here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here

Install FireTrust SiteHound
You can find information and download it from here

Install MVPS Hosts File from here
The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
Find Tutorial here : http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.
You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.
Secunia Software Inspector
F-secure Health Check

Visit Microsoft often to get the latest updates for your computer.
http://www.update.microsoft.com
Note 1: If you are running Windows XP SP2, you should upgrade to SP3.
Note 2: Users of Norton Internet Security 2008 and newer versions should uninstall the software before they install Service Pack 3.
The security suite can then be reinstalled afterwards.

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Read some information here how to prevent Malware.

Happy Surfing !!

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. Still having problems loading at start up. I finally figured out the problem. (I think). I have Trend Micro AntiVirus which I bought and was loaded for me when I bought the computer in Jan. '08. I tried to uninstall and it wont uninstall. Went into Programs and features to uninstall and it came up with an error and now its not listed, but the program is still there. I plan on calling Trend Micro tomorrow. Thanks again, Glenda
I fianlly got Trend Micro working. It was a issue with Vista SP1 and the version of Trend I was using. I went to their site and downloaded the newest version. Computer booted up nicely after I disabled spysweeper, it wouldnt run with the newest version of Trend Micro. Trend came with antivirus and antispyware in the version I just installed from their site.. One last question. You had me —— download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop. ***Please close any instances of Internet Explorer before continuing!*** Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program. From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select. JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer. Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK. A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location. Then download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7. I looked in programs and features and noticed I have two Java's Installed. Java™ SE Runtime Environment 6 update1 and Java™ 6 update7 I ran JavaRa.exe again and both still remains. Should I uninstall the Java™ SE Runtime Environment 6 update1? Thanks, Glenda
