Less than a week ago we did a system restore on this machine, taking it back to the original factory settings. Updated with SP3 for XP,
got the newest version of IE, updated Java and shock player.

The MS auto updates keeps getting turned off. When I do a manual update @ Microsoft Update, it shows 21 different updates that need
to be installed. Everything seems to work fine until the actual install, the return message says some of the updates could not be installed.
It shows that all 21 updates did not install. I turned off the firewall and antivirus and tried the installs from the beginning, this made no
difference.

Here are the baseline from HiJackThis and the report from Malwarebytes

If the below doesn't work I'd suggest you call Microsoft.

goto Start>Run>Services.msc
look for Background Intelligent Transfer Service
start it if tis stopped, and then right click it and click Properties>and set its startup type to Automatic
restart and now check if any progress ??

Do the same for:
Windows Installer

and if its already started and running, then try a SFC scan !!
Goto START>RUN and type sfc /scannow <–Note the space, it needs to be there.
u will need ur WinXP CD in order to fix the corrupted windows system files, if found by scan.
