Hello -

1) Windows is up to date
2) Erunt has been installed and I have run the app
3) ATF has been installed and I have run the app
4) Malware Bytes has been installed and I have run the app (log below)
5) Spysweeper is up to date – scanned today
6) Symantec is up to date – scanned today

Psyme has been on my PC for some time now, caught by Spysweeper, however I cannot remove it from quarantine. Today I was surfing for an app online (xml gui editor that can display an image for data entry – can't find one…) when Symantec real time thing popped up with a message that it prevented something from installing on my PC. It was Blusod. My background image turned white. I rebooted in safe mode and then did a system restore from two days ago.

I then ran Spyweeper and it found Gozi and Fakealert. I was able to remove Fakealert from the Spysweeper quarantine, but when i try to select the other two Spysweeper hangs up and eventually unchecks them. My CPU usage was in the high %90's.

Symantec found almost 5,000 notifications, so I closed it when it was finished. Seconds later it popped back up and started from 0 –every time i close it it just comes back up, i couldn't get it to stop.

Next, i performed steps 1-4 from above, so below are my logs:

…then my phone rang, it was the support guy from work. At that very moment Symantec had stopped at 2193 notifications and i was able to close it. He suggested that i delete the items in my Symantec quarantine (17,985) and run another scan. So i did, nothing was detected. I am still unable to delete items in the Spysweeper quarantine. Should I re-run Malware Bytes and Hijack this?. My PC is quite slow as well.

Hello

Please visit this web page for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

This includes installing the Windows XP Recovery Console in case you have not installed it yet.

For more information on the Windows XP Recovery Console read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058.

Once you install the Recovery Console, when you reboot your computer, you'll see the option for the Recovery Console now as well. Don't select Recovery Console as we don't need it. By default, your main OS is selected there. The screen stays for 2 seconds and then it proceeds to load Windows. That is normal.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.
Thanks.

Forgot to mention this earlier, not sure if it's relevant – when starting up, i would see a lot of file names streaming down my screen, they looked like:
Missing: \Device\Harddiskvolume2\Windows\Temp\DWH….TMP
Today it took an unusually long time to get through all of these – 3-5 minutes. After running ComboFix and restarting, it did not happen again.

Also, earlier today (after posting) I received another "Real Time Protection Scan" notification from Symantec:
Virus Found!
Trojan.Fakeavalert
It was Quarantined by Symantec but I have not yet deleted it.

Anyway, here are my logs:

The file MorningDew.zip is over 16 MB, therefore the VirScan will not work. There were two MP3 files in that folder - I created them by converting an audio cassette on my mac to MP3's, then I uploaded to my PC. I have deleted the directory.
Ok thats fine

Your using an old version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, this can leave your pc open to vulnerabilities, you can update it here :

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer against malware infections.

* Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at :
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.

* To reduce re-infection for malware in the future, I strongly recommend installing these free programs:

SpywareBlaster protects against bad ActiveX
IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all
Have a look at this tutorial for IE-Spyad here

* SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts. Make sure you are only running one real-time anti-spyware protection program or there will be a conflict.

Make Internet Explorer more secure
  • Click Start > Run
  • Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
  • Click on the Security tab
  • Click Reset all zones to default level
  • Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
  • In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
  • Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

*ATF Cleaner - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.

*NoScript - Addon for Firefox that stops all scripts from running on websites. Stops malicious software from invading via flash, java, javascript, and many other entry points.

*Keep a backup of your important files - Now, more than ever, it's especially important to protect your digital files and memories. This article is full of good information on alternatives for home backup solutions.

* MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.

* Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more
secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in pop up
blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from
Here

* Take a good look at the following suggestions for malware prevention by reading Tony Klein’s article 'How Did I Get Infected In The First Place'
